2709, best sound barrier product you've used? (not sound damper, aka dynamat)

what brand of sound barrier (keeps out outside sounds) do you guys like? I'm not referring to sound damper materials like dynamat(adds mass to panels to change their frequency characteristics and thus decreases rattling). I want to install some barrier soon... though I will probably need a damper too when the cat back comes in.

its best to use as much different materials as you can as they each work best for a particular frequency range. I have my whole floor a layer of mcmaster "dynamat", 1/8 closed cell foam, and 1/8 open cell foam. It was defeintely an improvement, although I have some broken seal somewhere thats causeing noise. If you're fealing rich cascade makes some stuff which has closed cell foam, open cell foam and lead sandwiched in between, its supposed to be the shiznit. You can also use fiberglass insulation and more of the factory-like padding, as long as it remains comfortabel enough :)

Yea, I checked out cascadeaudio.com, and asked them what do I need - they said 2 of this, 2 of that - ended up being like $500!!!! that's too much for me because that's on top of the sound dampner stuff I need to buy. Where did you get your closed cell foam, and open cell foam? would you recommend me getting what you have?

(I'm getting either dynamat of brown bread for the sound dampner)

I got the hi temp mastic (dynamat alternative), viscoelastic damping sheets(i like better than hi temp mastic), and closed cell foam from mcmaster.com.

I got the open cell foam from work (furniture manufacturing). You can also get the closed cell foam from people who do vinyl roofs if you find any in your area.

For the price I paid i'm happy with the results, I wouldn't spend any more actually.

do a search for "foam". It will list a few subCategories, including noiseControl and SoundAbsorbing types among them. There they have a few selections, they even have a page with some explanations in the noisecontrol page. Sorry i don't have the item number of the one i used.
