Posted by pn0ymahal, May-27-02 05:05 PM
well i was wondering how good dynomat is compared to other copycats? how does the process go to dynomat something? like do u use a heat gun etc? also what kind of copycats are out there? cheaper then dynomat? i heard there is a kind that is self adhesive?... i really just need to dynomat etc my passenger side front to rear (because of my fuel pump) plus i might want to rap some around a steel pipe under my car? is this ok?...

Go to www.McMaster.com... part number 9709T19.

I used that stuff throughout my car and it's quality is equal to that of Dynamat. I've used dynamat before but I prefer this stuff because it's a hell of a lot cheap and works the same if not better. And yes, it's self adhesive. They'll have it on your door step in 2 days via ground or the same day if you really want! ;)

what about the non-concrete based materials, like at cascadeaudio.com Because I read on this board that dynamat was like around .6lb/square inch, and since a square foot is 144 square inches, that's about 70lbs per square foot. I don't know how many square feet would be needed for a car, but with just 10 you're looking at like 700 lbs!

My next mod is to put some of this stuff(non-asphault) in my car before the cat-back exhuast comes in. Any advice for the install?

those weighs are way off, a truck kit is like 40 sq feet and weighs like around 30 pounds

I've used both dynamat and the knock off stuff from McMaster Carr. I like the stuff from McMaster Carr a little better. Not to mention its way cheaper.

PS- The weight is way off. The stuff is .6lbs per sq. foot, not square inch.

whats the difference between all the adhesive backing damping sheets from Mcmaster-carr? also this quiet metal vibration damping sheet is that adhesive also? or? does it mean you could use this around bolts screws etc? couldn't i just be able to use the adhesive back damping sheet also?

I use the lighter viscoelastic damping sheets(just do a search for sound damping on their site and you'll find it), i'm pretty sure its the same stuff as what cascade sells. It is easier to use (melts faster)
