255, where have you guys installed 1' tweeters from component sets? Posted by super_dave1980, Jul-20-01 01:15 PM
I bought the Infinity Reference 6.5" component set, and don't really know about installing the 1" tweeters that come with it. I don't know if it's possible to put them under the existing little grills on top of the dash or not...
Also, where do you guys put the crossovers? I don't like the idea of putting them in the door, seems like a lot of moisture is going to get in there.
Thanks in advance for any advice

This is a little off subject... How do you even use those tweeters in the dash? I've never heard any sound coming of them. They are in a decent spot and I would like to incorperate them into my sound system, but how would you wire them to the head unit?

I have the same speakers in the front and the back. The tweeters I put in the door panel below the mirrors on each side. I got a hole saw the size of the cutout needed and cut in to the plastic door panel. In the back I put the in to the plastic side panels next to the speakers. I put the crossover for the front in the door behind the plastic sheet that is in the door so they seem to be fine and have been for almost 2 years.

My RF kit came with some 1" tweeters too. They had flush mounting casings with them and all I did was drill a hole in the back of them into the little black plastic triangle where my side mirrors are, so they face towards the person sitting there. I ran all the wires back to the subs and amp just for location, and mounted the crossovers on the side of the box, with the amp on the back. I can get some pics if you'd like. I left the tweeters in the dash...never hear anything out of them anyway. The location of the new tweeters in louder anyway.
btw, do your crossovers have light in them that glow with the amount of power surging through? First night I ran my system I was driving in my neighborhood and saw the flashing in the back. I jacked the e-brake and hopped out before the car stopped, thinking my trunk was on fire! ;D Ran back and it was ok.

Well I did mount mine in the dash where the old ones were. What I did was go to a shop that installs stereos and found some mounts for each tweater. All the mount is is a circular disk with a 1" hole in the center (Im sure you could buy some plastic piece and easily make it yourself). you drop the tweater into the center hole and then cut the edges so that the disk rests on the lip of the holes in your dash. Then I applied some foam and spray adheisive inbetween the disk and the dash so wouldn't move around. I didnt bother trying to put the factory grill back over top since I liked the way it looked when I was finished. I mounted the crossovers in the glove box, but theres tons of differnt places you can do it... under seat... in trunk... under dash... you get the point. Good luck!
And God said..."Let there be light!" And Man said..."Let there be 2gnt!!!"

yeah mine are mounted under the passenger seat. i didnt install them at the time as to no time or experiance, so the place i took it to did it there and mounted the new tweeters in the stock place on the dash, but i dont think i ever hear them, but i do hear the tweets on my 3 way 6x9's in the back corners. hmm i think i need to take some pics of my setup. aslo as far as i know my crossovers dont glow.

okay...mine are in the kicks right now...but that's a different setup....
depending on how big they are you can fit them in the little triangles opposing the mirrors...but, you'll get problems with your tweeters being slightly out of phase with the midrange driver. They look cool there and everything, but for the best possible sound w/out modificaiton, use the existing tweeter location and just make yourself an abs plastic mounting plate and use hotglue or 3M stripcaulk to secure it to the grill.
There's a guy I see regularly at the shows who does very well in pro1-600 using the factory locations.

Another option is to pop the factory tweets out and gut out the speaker leaving the basket. Then you can let the aftermarket tweet sit in the old speaker basket and put the factory grill back over it. That's what I did and it still looks 100% factory. As far as the crossovers go you can hide those under the dash so you won't have to run any extra wire all over the car. Just my .02 cents.

Ok, so no one else is having a problem with the front tweets being too far up to get out? For me it was a bitch trying to because they were so close to the windshield. I didn't want to pop the grill because I was afraid they were sealed or tabbed and I might break that....and have a permenant rattle after that. That's why I took apart the door panels and rear panels inside my car to install the other speakers, so I didn't have to pop the grill.

they're super easy to pull off, it all comes out as one peice. as long as you don't mess with the grill itself, you should be okay. The tabs that hold the grill on are pretty brittle and you can't bend em w/out breaking. __________________________ ...just my $.02 95 GS
