2506, Best Buy installation... Posted by Jarrad GST, May-14-02 02:03 PM
I bought today the Sony CDX-M610 headunit. Couple questions, is this a good unit, I got four year warranty from Best Buy for $40. Also it comes with free installation at Best Buy, but I need to buy dash kit and wiring harness like for $40 bucks too. Do I need th harness and should I just buy the DIN at chrysler or Mitsu, probably be cheaper maybe. I paid $240 for the headunit, was on clearance.
Give me some feedback on this, Not a big stereo guy. Thanks a lot for your expertise in this area guys.

I have the Sony CDX-M600 and 13 months after i had it, the remote turn on died inside the deck. Well my local stereo shop would only warranty it for 12 months. It is a great deck imo... but i have heard from many stereo shops that this is common for the Sony Xplod series. Good deal if you do get that 4 year warranty. Even though i am pissed at Sony for not fixing it... I would still buy another.

you will need the wiring harness for the new radio, and i don't think the dealership sells them. This harness will plug right into your stock radio harness. You might be able to find the parts cheaper on line, or in town, but 40 bucks for the kit and harness is fairly standard pricing.

Yah, I have heard they break alot. That's why I got the warranty, Best Buy will just fix it or me another.
And yah the dealership does have it. Its in the part guide book. I will call tomorrow and see what it cost for the DIN at Chrysler and Mitsu. Best buy dash kit is a good price though, just tryin to cut a few bux off. Thxs though guys.... Anyone else can help??

Just get the pocket from the factory. That's what i tell all my customers with eclipses talons and some other cars to do. It looks a lot better than the kit, because you'll just have a blank piece of abs plastic under your radio. I think you can get the pocket for about $20

My kenwood installed without a mounting kit, wiring harnass will be needed though. on a side note I'm the only one who installs thigns on my car if I can help it. Aftyer an install they did on my friends firebird back in high school... I don't trust most of those places.
Una salus victus.
