I have 2 12-inch competition subs and all of a sudden they just stopped working. All my other speakers are working fine. What could I check or what could be the problem?

Well what is your amp set up? Do you just have an amp for your subs, or do you have both a sub amp and an amp for your front/rears? Check your sub amp, be sure its powering up, check the fuses. Thats a good starting point without having any more info on your set up..

I have a seperate amp for my subs and everything else is just stock. Its not my fuse and the amp lights up meaning power on.

If your amp is powered up, then check your head unit, some have sub outputs that can be turned on and off. Check to be sure you are getting a signal from the head unit, to your sub amp. Check all sub wireing, in and outside the box. It sounds like it is something simple to me, but there always is the possibility of a bad amp. You do have an aftermarket head unit right? Or is it the stock head unit?

Try starting the car RIGHT away do not leave the keys in the ignition before starting the car. Just pop the key in and crank it. For some strange reason my amp will not power my subs unless I do this even though my amp light is on. I know someone else who has this problem and doesnt know what it is. What could this be XtremeRS?

Hmmm..that is very strange indeed, never heard of that one before. To me, it sounds like a head unit problem, since you say your amp does power up, but no sound. Could be your outputs on your head unit going to your amp, or some internal problem in the HU itself. So you are saying if you just put the key in and turn it to the ACC postition without starting the car, you cant hear anything from your amp? What is your HU doing when this happens? Does it power up? Sound comes from it? How about some more specifics about the situation when that happens to you..

Put keys in the car, ACC position, everything works fine. Subs work, headunit, etc.. works fine.

However, when I start the car and the engine starts running. My amp doesnt power the subs.

The only way for me to remedy this problem is by starting the car RIGHT AWAY. Right after my keys go in, I have to start the engine.

Maybe this will help, I have a little light on my amp that says "protection" and it turns on when ever I do what i said in the first scenario.

ahh i see what you are saying. I had a similar problem like this on a different car i used to have. My first question for you is: Do you start your car with the Head Unit turned on? If so, this might be causing your problem. What happens is that when you turn your key forward, the first position it goes to is the accessory position. This will power up most accessories in the car, and the radio. Now when you have the key on acc, and then go to crank the starter, there is a split second time frame that the power to the acc circuits cutts ff. This happens as soon as you go from acc to start, and the acc circuit stays OFF while the car is cranking, and back on when the car starts and the key goes into the run position. Some amps may go into protect mode with this sudden "on and Off" cycling. When you are starting the car normally, not from the acc position, the time is too short for the radio and amp to even turn on, thus not causing any protection light. So the best remedy to fix this, is to turn off your head unit before you start your car, from the ACC position anyway. Try that out, and see if that works, i bet it will. I have always made a habbit of turning off the head unit before i turn the car off. For some reason, i just don't like to start the car with the head unit already turned on...maybe why i don't have this problem. So if you are listening to your raido with the key in the ACC position, just turn off your head unit before you go to crank over the car, or go fully to the off position with the key, wait a few seconds, then go from off to crank right away..

Thanks man, I never thought of turning off my head-unit but I know for a fact this would probably work. Your explanation makes clear sense. I dont have my head-unit right now (being serviced) but I will try it out as soon as Circuit City gives it back to me. Thanks again, you know your stuff.
