my friend is running 2 10" JL W3's in his car, and also a rockford fosgate 800a2 (800Wx2)

when i turn the gains up all the way it sounds distorted, and it's not really pushing too much bass.

does anyone know what the punch bass knob is for? what difference it makes. i know nothing about this amp.. i just know it has two gains which seems odd to me

there's a left gain and a right gain... when i turn the left gain all the way down and the right gain all the way up... one sub bumps really loud and clear... i turn left up and right down, and the other sub bumps really loud and clear

yet when i have both gains maxed, it doesn't sound as loud nor does it bump as clean. i was wondering what the problem was and did any else experiance it??? any guesses???

I'm not sure of the specs for those subs. But I'm sure you putting too much power to them., hence the distortion. Either get more powerful subs, or don't turn it all the way up.

that's exactly right gains should almost never be all the way up. the bass knob is a bass boost so that will increace the volume. what kind of box are you running? if you run the wrong box with those subs that may cause them to sound bad

Be sure to have BOTH gains set evenly. At the deck, have your bass setting set to the middle. Turn the gains on the amp all the way down, and turn off any bass boost. Turn up the deck's volume to about 3/4 the way up. Now turn up your gains evenly until you notice some distortion out of the subs. Now turn back down the gain until the distortion stops, and that will give a pretty good gain setting. If the amp indeed puts out 800 watts to each sub, then those JL's wont be lasting to long..Dont beat those subs with that much power, the JL's will burn up! Don't use any bass boost either with this sub/amp combo. If you want louder bass, get bigger subs or more of them :)

Another problem is due to the fact that Punch amps have gone down in quality over the years....ever since they sold out and went to commercial chains like Best Buy the quality isn't what it used to be. But the power on that amp is way to much for only 10's unless you have some serious 10's. Only a few can handle over 400 watts at that size... I would say you probably don't want the gains over 5/8's on that amp for a pair of 10" W3's............
