My roommate just put a JVC SH-99 in his car. Very nice unit. Can be had for a little over $300 on the net. Did you want to know something about it?

i got the kenwood kdc-mp8017 in mine

i preferr the rockford player....it is easier to use i think. kenwood would be next up for me if i were to spend that much.

i just wanted to know how popular it was. im planning to put together a project to put a computer system in my car to play mp3s and later on do more stuff, but im still decideing on the best way to do it. i could go with the cd/mp3 players on the market, but i think they are a bit expenisive and plus you have to burn mp3s on cds. i would rather have them all there and accesable. i also know that many of you have put in dvd players and such. is it worth it to go that route and how much have you spent for the setup. who knows i could develop a cool custom setup with putting a computer in my trunk or wherever i can manage. it would be the knight rider of eclipse's

actually i was thinking about this, aiwa makes a DVD / mp3 player for the home of course but putting one of those maybe under the glove box or under the seat, then buying a 4 or 5" lcd screen and putting the somewhere in the center console, but i was going to just put a whole computer in my car it can be done very cheaplly most expensive part is the lcd screen which can be had for $130 and the power inverter which is about $60 - 100, anyway the model of the aiwa is xd-dv3070, its kinda big but might fit under the seat. having a computer in the car would be nice for games, navigation, mp3s, and maybe some cool voice recognition. but i am broke now, the only thing i got so far is the motherboard and no chip yet plus my other computer was fried by lightning or somehthing :( for now i have a Aiwa Cd player in my car with the line in for my diamond rio mp3 player which works ok but with only 48megs u are limited

if you dont want to burn CDs, get a NEO 35. it uses a hard drive (3.5inch , i think 5200rpm? maybe less). the unit takes up a little less than a DIN i think, so you can still have a cd player. when you want to put music on it, yank the hard drive out of the car bay (slide right out... easy), stick it in the computer bay (slides right in the front - you install a bay in the car and computer to make it easy to swap out). you can get a harddrive of whatever size (10/20/40/60GB or whatever). load the musci onto them (FAST, like copying to a harddrive), then yank it out and stick it in the car... ready to go . has ID3, and supports playlists. i recommend hooking it up to an indash cd player. costs about 400 for everythign i think. never burn a cd again- 40GB = 40000minutes = about 10,000 songs. AND, you can send back and forth between the HD and computer. delete what you dont want. you never have to have music stored on your computer, just keep it all on this one HD.

although i just got done installing my 2 kenwood 10's and kenwood amp, which was a first for me. BASS is good! but boy was it a pain to get it installed. first i had to run the wires,which was not so hard, then pack the subs in the box (pain) and wire them (somewhat a pain) and them finish wiring the power wire (pain!) then wiring up the amp (not so bad) and then finish it up and test (success!) ... now for some neon and some way to secure the box (?) so it wont bouch and slide everywhere, even though it's heavy as heck.

i am putting one in my car. it is based on the gateway connected touchpad. the computer is about an inch and a half thick, and everything is built into the unit. it features a touchscreen, built in ethernet, usb, and infrared keyboard. runs win98. bought it for $109 on ebay. in the future, i will put gps on it.

sweet man, you'll have to post some pics of this unit. im curious.

Hey Jason! I have an AIWA mp3 player I got 2 months ago. I love it, b/c I can fit like 160-175 songs on a cd. It's been two months, and I have never ejected my same cd yet, with all my napster hits....it's kinda hard though, cause I have an 8gb hard drive completely full of MP3s, no operating system on the HD, it's slaved off in one of my machines at the apt. I am DEFINITELY interested in this idea you guys have of setting up a computer system in your car with mp3 playback. I was wondering if I could just use my P3-850 mhz, 20gb Laptop? Hook it up through my "AUX" input jack on my mp3 player....and wham! Instant Mobile jukebox, with over 3,000 mp3s set on Random play. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Currently, as of right now I have 2 Blaukpunkt over-sized competition magnet 12" subwoofers, a 1000watt 2-channel coustics amp, and a BOSS xover...with a black light thumping with the bass. (hook the light up to the + and - terminals on one of the speaker terminals, in case your wondering how i did it)

At first I had to return the Aiwa though, problems with the buttons and stuff....but after I got it replaced I have had no serious probs....occasionally it gets tooo hot though and wont work buttons.....so hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I may need more volts or a bigger cooling system on my amp in the trunk.
