2142, Need Speaker sugestions!!

Hey guys, I blew out one of my rear speakers yesterday, and this is the perfect opportunity to upgrade to 6x9's. Anyone have some good experiences with certain brands? Also, what kind of speaker should I get to make the upgrade as easy as possible? Should I get 2-way, 3-way speakers? What are the stock speakers, 2-ways?

And finally, the door speakers are 6 1/2's, right? TIA

I have two of these in my car, Fosgate HPC2369 Power Handling (Watts RMS/Peak): 100/200 bought them from www.etronics.com for 99 bucks. They sound great and can take a beating.

A lot of speakers should be fine. I've got the alpine 6x9 3 ways and they're great. The door speakers are 6 1/2 inches with the upgraded system but in the RS I think they're 5 1/4 with a fitting plate. But 6 1/2 will fit even if they'r 5 1/4. You just have to take the plates off first.

You don't have to go with 6x9s, I personally have never cared much for oval shaped speakers! :) 6-1/2" 2-way coaxials also sounds very very nice. I love mine and didn't have to dremel out the opening like you'll have to do for 6x9s.

MB Quart, Boston Acoustics, JL are nice upgrades.

Stock speakers are woofers with a little whisper cone thingie in the middle to emulate a tweeter. 2-way or 3-way is a matter of preference. I personally don't like much mid-high comming from the rear... it messes up the front soundstage.

Well, kinda. They are actually 5-1/4" inside of 6-1/2" plates.

*note: if you have the infinity system then you have 6-1/2" in the doors and 6x9" in the rear.

You may not benefit from high performance speakers if you are still using a factory reciever, or low powered aftermarket one. if thats the case, your best off getting a nice set of 6.5's. this way you dont have to make modifications to the car, and youll still get good sound. also if you have a stock or low powered reciever, check out the sensitivity rating on whatever speakers you buy. the highter the number, the more efficient the speaker-basically they will do more while requiring less power from your head unit. a good range for the sensitivity is in the 90's.

i would suggest for you the Pioneer TS-A1661 6.5 speakers. they are 3 way speakers, have a high sensitivity rating, and are about 60$. a factory head unit will be able to power them, and they sound really good. ive had them in the back of my car for about 2 months now and they sound much better than the stock rear ones ever did.

heres a link to them

but then again, i dont know if you have upgraded your head unit, if so, then you will be able to put a lil more $ in and get even better speakers.

What you need to do is get some custom kick panels instead of putting speakers in the doors. It will sound much better. Hey, wha do ya know, I have a set up custom kicks for sale. :) Check out these links:

You will have to right click, then copy and paste the URL. Let me know if you are interested.

I also have a great sounding set of Canton 5 1/4 seperates. They are the ones pictured. They are bad ass. They are for sale too, and I KNOW that they fit in the kicks. :)

A lot, i just did this today and it was a Bi#$... you will have to dremmel almost the entire enclosure or pod for the 6*9 to fit.the
"rails" on the outher sides are a good working ground on how much you have to take off.

yup 6x9's are a bitch to put in... i don't know for everyone, but for mine i had to cut alot of shit out in the back...

the reason most speakers are circular is because of the way they stretch.. when the speaker "bumps" circular shapes are the best because they come out evenly.. oval speakers (6x9) usually bend and therefore will break before the average 6.5" speaker.

if your wondering about the L7 solo barics (square subs), they compensated for alot of the bending by using a tough ass material, i don't remember what it is, but just by playing with a L7, u can tell that they thought about that shit for a while, so i don't think those will rip to easy.

if you can return the 6x9's i suggest doing so and going with 6.5" in the back. if you can't. just install them... it's gonna be a b!tc# tho. sorry to be the bearer of bad news
