12931, Need Some Ideas For Door Panel...

This is also in the Electronics forum, figured I may get a better response here :)

Ok, so I went to the stereo shop (where I have a hookup) and for the price of a pioneer system I came home with these:

Image Dynamics CTX65 (four total)
Image Dynamics ID 12" Subwoofer (not installed yet)

I put the speakers in after making some brackets, they are not amped yet, will be in a week or two when my laptop rebate comes back (Phoenix Gold Octane-R, one 4ch, and one mono...), but they sound good off the Alpine HU.

So I put the back together, it all fit, then went to put the door panels on... Ended up drilling a 2.5 inch in the door panel speaker grill because I was pressed for time (panels should be replaces anyway, they wont come clean...). I could not set the speakers back anyway, window would not close.

So, what to do about the speaker? I just want it to look good, and I cant throw on the ID grills because the door curves at the top. The tweeter is flush with the door panel, so it does not need to be ridiculously huge. For now it looks OK* but I dont like it, it bugs me.

BTW: Have you ever held one of these speakers? The magnets are HUGE!

Thanks in advance

So anyone have some ideas?

holy shit...you have some GREAT stuff. if you ever want to sell me the ID 12" i'll probably take it.

if you have the experience or want-to, build some kickpanels. theres plenty of room (i used to run a 6.5"/4"/1.5" ALL in the kicks), so space isnt a concern. as for the door locations...good luck. there really isnt an easy answer to your situation. you will require a lot of mods in any instance, so custom kicks seems to be the best option. or, you could stop use of your windows :p .

Yeah, I thought of the kick panels, but im a big guy and my car is a manual, so I would not have enough room at that point.

When I realized that they were too tall, I just cut the hole in the stock grill, they sounded too good in there :)

They actually put out more bass than my MTX 8" subs I had in my single cab ranger :)

word about the bass output. although i havnt personally owned them, the IDT CDs (i think that was the series) 6.5s were unbelievable. my friend used to use 4 of them as his bottom end (SQ car). even the chamilion neodymiums were pretty good at the low output (not great though).

so basically, you have everything installed and are happy with the sound, but want to "cover up" the install? youre probably still looking at some fiberglass work. there were some custom door panels sold for the eclipse a while back....but they were ugly as can be, lol. the advantage was that they were all fiberglass so custom work/bonding was easy. i just searched but i cant find a link/pictures to them. you might want to contact member "topshop" (if he's still around). he did some great fiberglass stuff a few years ago.

Install kick panels. Drivers is a bit touchy because of the clutch pedal. Then find a good 8" midbass and put that in the door.
