Just recently I started getting the whining out of my front pass. speaker. If I go to the amp and take the wires of the pass side and connect them to the drivers side to make both front speakers run on just the drivers side, the noise goes away. Could this be a ground prob? I cant see how if its only acting like this on one of the channels of the amp. It is a 4 channel amp and all the other channels are fine.

I believe if your getting noise its due to a bad ground, the incoming ground maybe closer to the one side as it comes in the amp and the other terminals may just be seeing a weaker ground there for making noise. I would just recheck your grounds and see what happens.

sounds like a cold solder to me. im going to agree w/ madhatter though..make sure your prinamy power ground is good. other then that, its an internal problem in the amp.

Well I tried a couple different ground points with this thing, including lastly the battery and no good. It still whines. So should I attempt to take it apart?

you could...but finding something as small as a cold solder or a loose connection is virtually impossible unless you have detailed schematics, some precice testing equipment, and a device for magnification.

Problem solved. Amp remote wire on head unit was crossed with the antenna wire....woops, lol.

This kinda leads to another question. What could I use to put inbetween them to totally block the signal from jumping over?

uhm, what do you mean they were crossed over? as in 1 wire laying over another or actual metal to metal contact?

They were just crossed over. I could def tell a difference when I would move them closer to each other then apart.

Lets just say for example, could a piece of foam inbetween the 2 help signals crossing?

There's something wrong with your set-up if two shielded wires touching each other is causing a issue. I'd say your headunit isn't properly grounded and you're running too much current ground through your antenna or something. It's hard to tell without being right there but I've been putting radios into cars for years and NEVER heard of a remote wire touching a radio antenna and getting noise in the amp because of it.

^^^i've had it happen once. ground was perfect and everything...but i guess the (very) small current draw was enough to induce some noise. after re-routing the wires the whine was gone. that was in a 98 corolla.

as for shielding...no, foam wont work. just get them as far apart as possible. a question though..why are you asking about further shielding, i thought the problem was solved. :shrug

Well yes, I fixed the prob, but from me driving (normally) I guess the 2 wires got close to each other again. I agree they shouldnt be doin that.

So I guess I will try to find a better ground for the head unit and just for the hell of it, try to ziptie them 2 wires apart.
