10992, Help Needed Between Buying MB Quart or Eclipse Components Posted by EclipseTenzoR, May-02-05 04:23 AM
So, I am going to piece together another system and need some help replacing the speakers all around. First I ask what size speakers do some of you recommend to place up front, 5.25" or 6.25"? My back pods are gutted to fit 6*9s so there is no question the 6*9s is what will be placed back there. Now I am really interested in some MB Quart Components I saw on ebay for $150 so obviously it is their baseline but its the Q series. And I found some pretty nice 6*9s from them for $80. So these are great prices from a respectable company, but i just need some advice if their baseline stuff is good and will be sufficient. If not should I go with some Eclipse stuff. My plan in the end is to be running the MB Quart or Eclipse speakers on an Eclipse 4 Channel amp, and have one single 12" Eclipse Aluminum sub along with another Eclipse amp to power that. I am going for strictly SQ here so help me choose.

When I was looking to replace my system the first thing I did was go to a shop and listen to just about every speaker in there. I know it sounds different but if a speaker sounds bad on the wall and another sounds really good, I think you have a pretty safe bet going with the latter. As far as the speakers you listed I'm not sure if I have heard those to compare them. I did test some MB Quart and was impressed with them, but I have no idea how they compare to the Eclipse. I have a 15" Eclipse sub and I wish I went with the 12". It's too big to mount anywhere and it really is over powering. Is there a reason why you want Eclipse amps? I was not too impressed with them myself. For my next system I will get JL amps without question. They are about the same price and I really think JL makes the best stuff. Good luck man, sorry I couldn't be more help, I'm not really the guru you were looking for.

Well I just purchased some MB Quart components for up front today. See how they sound when I get them in and installed. I would like get an Eclipse amp plainly for the fact that I want everything to flow when I do my custom enclosure in the trunk. Also not only that, but I have heard on some audio forums that Eclipse amps are very well made and produce good power and clarity. I can get the Eclipse amps that I need reasonably cheap to what they usually retail at. What series MB Quarts did you listen to out of curiousity.

Yes, I am planning to go full SQ this summer I want everything crisp and clean and I'm going to have the whole car dynomattd like twice over. I had alot of bass in my last system but truthfully I don't care to be obnoxious anymore. By the way, what series quarts do you have? I chose to go with the Discus line up front just because I can't afford their high end stuff. Also I saw your post for the headunit. Look into Pioneers 8600MP, I have that in my car and its fantastic, I am much happier have gotten that than going for an Alpine, I can tweak that thing so much it has high pass filters for fronts and rears db control everything, check it out at bestbuy or circuit city you wont be disappointed.

Don't use dynomat, use fatmat. Same shit, 1/4 of the price. And also fill all your empty spaces in the car with expanding foam. You'll be happy you did.
And don't forget the bare sheet metal under the headliner.

Yea, I ment fatmat.. I tell everyone dynamat but I mean fatmat because you can get a shit load of it on ebay for cheap.

my truck and fenders in the rear are all about the enxpanding foam

be very careful with the foam...that shit can seriously distort body panels if you use too much.

11028, RE: Help Needed Between Buying MB Quart or Eclipse Components Posted by EclipseTenzoR, May-08-05 10:06 AM
I'm not fucking with foam, I don't even want to deal with that mess. I will eventually fatmat the body panels on the inside but rite now I want to fatmat the plastic panals because they resonate to much when I have my music loud. We'll see though, rite now I am jobless again so as soon I start making more dough I'll let you all know how this turns out. I'm thinking this will make a drastic improvement on how my music sounds if I dont have vibrations through interior panels.

I have Mb Quart tweets on the dash and 6 1/4" compenents in the door all amped, I need to replace my back 6x9's because they are shitty pioneer 200 watters. Sounds great I would def go with the Quarts on this.

THat's why you never fill a whole area all at once. I usually do them in 4-8 sessions depending on how much space i have to fill. It's less messy that way too.

Well I just installed my MB Quart components today and let me say they are amazing. They are 5.25" speakers and are MB Quart's baseline. From what I have heard at stores compared to other speakers I would say they are about same or greater quality than Alpine Type R's and Rockfords stuff. They clarity is amazing, and the midbass is amazing. Can't push hard bass out of it because they distort. But for their baseline speakers deffintley as good as the other companies expensive stuff. Just something for you guys to look into.

You don't want to push hard bass out of 5.25 speakers anyway. 120hz and above is all they should ever see.

Gotcha.. I still have'nt studied much about fine tuning my stereo. Still need to understand how the high pass filters work etc. I have a the general concept of it, just dont know which frequencys should be pushed where other than lows to sub (when i get one) and highs and mids to I don't know where.. lol.. So any info on this stuff is greatly appreaciated.. Thanks again Aaron
