anyone have opinions on a free air sub? I built a new floor carpeted in black for my hatch area. (above the rear tire).

Currently I have my battery back there and plan on installing a 10 or 12" sub and an amp all in the spare tire well.

I could run with a non free air sub and try to make the spare tire well as sealed as possible.

free air, you sacrificed a lot of low end extension, output, power handling, and impact. I would recommend a sealed box wherever possible, especially if you plan to put it in the spare tire well (why not just build a tiny box, there are plenty of 10" drivers that can fit in less then 0.5 cubic feet, I've got a 12" that plays in 0.3 cubic feet for sale :D)

whats the specs on it

if the tire well is glassed in, you can get about 1.5 ft^3. if you choose to build a "drop in" box, you can get about .5 ft^3.

do not use a "free air" sub (or any for that matter) with just a baffle over the tire well. you will get horrible results (e.g. rattles, poor low frequency response, etc.)

150 watts RMS, plays in tiny tiny boxes, but for some reason it gets pretty loud even though it has hardly any excursion. low end extension leaves a little to be desired, but it's got a great clean bass sound and on some songs (A Baltimore Love Thing by 50 cent for instance) it gets really loud (for a $60 sub in a sealed box off 150 watts).

this one says it needs just under one cubic foot which is a lot more then I thought and a lot more then it is in right now, its cheap tho, I'd do it for $60cdn shipped, just cheap enough to get free duties :D

if you want other small boxes, look for an elemental designs "O". designed for very small boxes as well, or even free air.

i have my subs molded into a box in the trunk, i absofuckinglutely love it. sounds amazing.
