10772, need help with finding a fuse???
Posted by Eclipse99fwb, Mar-23-05 03:30 AM
Okay Ive searched and read alot of post on hardwiring a radar detector. The process seems very easy but my only question is, I was going to run it to a fuse instead of splicing into the cigarette lighter. I just need to know what would be a good acc. fuse to use? If i read some of the other post right, the fuse for cigarette lighter is big enough for me to tap into and still run say a cell phone charger plug in. I just want to make sure i do this right and dont fry any wiring. Sorry if this has been covered before, i searched but couldnt find a sure answer on what fuse to use. Thanks in advance.

Do you have an aftermarket radio in your car? If so run it to the red wire in your harness. I can't remeber the ACC line on the radio factory harness from memory, but if you have an aftermarket radio it's the red one. I like running them there more than running the cig lighter.

no I did have a aftermarket cd player but it messed up on me. Im running the stock cd player right now. any other ideas, or is there anyway for me to find out what the factory acc line for the radio is? other than the volt meter i suppose. Thanks for the quick reply too.

Hmmm, there should be a wiring diagram on a 12volt site. I used to have one, lemme look.

I'd say 10amp would suffice. Just remember don't cut that wire, just pull the insullation back and solder onto the existing wire.
