10211, 3 super quick questions!
Posted by eclipse982nrRST, Dec-30-04 01:48 PM
just 2 quick questions for you audio guys....

1. where can i find RCA's to hook up my 2 amps? i guess what im looking for is the 2 RCA outputs that plug into the headunit and then run back and split into 4 input RCA's to plug into the amps (obviously 2 in 1 amp and 2 in the other).

2. what do i need to run 3 lcd screens?

3. whats that little box called that i need to power the 2 amps? i am planning on running 4 gauge wire from the battery back to the amps.

also, just to throw this in, how do i run a switch to turn on the subs/amps so i am not running down my battery all the time? how would i wire a switch to them?

thanks audio peeps!

1. you need rca's and some type of splitter look at radio shack.

2. im assuming just the screens and some type source and splitter to feed the video to the screens.

3. its called a distribution block

as for the question about the switch for your subs and amps, just rig a reguler switch to your remote wire.

Nope, mainly because most headunits have controllers that have front preouts, rear preouts, and sub preouts. That or the amps are bridgeable and can be plugged into each other to feed off of same signal. I'm going from what I know here which I believe is correct. Someone back me on this.

"Bridgeable" has nothing to do with the RCA's. It has to do with how you can configure the amp with different impedances. For example: If you have an amp that is 50w X 2 @4ohms. If it is bridgeable to 2ohms you can run it at 100w X 2 @2ohms or 200w X 1 @ 4ohms. If it is brideable to 1ohm, then you can run it at 200W X 2 @ 1ohm or 400W X 1 @ 2ohms. Now the amount of power you get from the amp depends on the amp. Not all of them are exactly double when you do this. And remember, the amount of ohms the amp is rated at bridged is usual in stereo, not mono, unless specified other wise.

Some amps have an input for RCA's and an output. Also they do sell spliters at circut city or best buy.

The block you are looking for is a power distribution block with 1 larger wire on one end and 2 smaller wires coming out the other end. also sold at best buy.

I had 4 amps in my truck and never once did I use a Y adapter. I had the decency to own a head unit with 3 pre-outs then I daisy chained the 2 sub amps off the output/input of the amp itself. Don't half ass shit dude.

P.s....I won't mention it in this thread.
