I have a 97 GS. I've redone the whole audio system, except the dash speakers. I've heard that they are anywhere from 3, 3.5, to 4 inches. They look like 3.5s, but I'm more concerned with how much room we have depth-wise. The whole car is Inf. Kappas and the speakers I just got were 3.5 in. with a mounting depth of 1 5/8 in. I popped off the covers to see if I could fit them in and I think with a little "massaging" I could sqeeze them in, but I'm worried about them being too deep. If anyone can tell me what the maximum mounting depth we can fit up there is I'd appreciate it. If anyone has tried to put something similar in there successfully let me know how you did it, if it wasn't an easy fit. I really don't want to put just a tweeter up there for balance reasons, but that might be the only option from what I've read.

I just put tweeters up there in mine. The speakers and cover are all one piece. I just cut the speaker off the bottom of the cover then tore the speaker out glued it back together and mounted my tweeters where the old speaker cone was.

Same here. A couple minutes with a dremel and you are all done.

My opinion is not even put tweets in the stock holes. Fab something or even just screw tweets to the triangle thing on the interior part of the mirrors on driver side and pass side. I dont have any pics of how mine were, but it sounds so much better.

I won a country sound quality (for my class) competion last year with them there.

Do you have a component set or the full speaker...?

I gutted my stock tweeters and installed some 7/8" alpine ones under the grills. They look sweet from the outside (you can see them through the grills. Having high freq. speakers under the windshield provides great acoustics, keep tweets there imo.

Anyone find that they had too many highs up front with amped tweets? I have a basslink so there's not a lot of bass to compensate for really strong highs.

I found I have the perfect mix with leaving the stock ones in... I know that most peoples are blown, but for some odd reason mine are not.

I have 2 way kenwoods all the way around (5 1/4 up in the doors and 6 1/2 in back) and a 10" sub in the trunk, it is loud enough and extremely clear sounding.

IMO kick panels are the way to go. For a system to sound the best the speakers should be as close to an equal length away from the listener. The best way to do this is go low in the kicks.

if u want the easy approach then put in tweets in the dash. if youre more concerned with staging and such, fab up some tiny enclosures and put then in the door tirangles where the mirrors are. its also possible to have that aluminum pole running across the top of the dash with the tweets on that, but thats a tad bit excessive unless ur hardcore into SPQ

Not really sure what aluminum pole you are talking about, and putting the tweets in the pillars is not got for imaging.

dremeling speakers apart? oh my. that would be the easiest way though, if you keep the rest of the speaker assembly then your tweeters will be highpassed at a good frequency which is great and they would drop right in.
if you put another set of tweeters in, you might get some really annoying, grating sounds around 5,000Hz (the "sss" sound, for instance, cymbals as well) and it gets bloody annoying after awhile. your highs also might become really annoying. do what djtrickee and the first guy said, get some cheap 3.5" Infinitis and take them apart and put them in there for it to be as painless as possible and still sound decent.
