10092, kenwood screen parking brake relay Posted by optimuspeterson, Dec-01-04 06:53 AM
So i just got my Kenwood Double Din touch screen/deck today and i won't be installing it until friday but for the screen to work you must hook up a parking brake relay that it comes with, ya know, for safety and such. But i don't care about safety because i'm me and i live in oregon so i not really worried about cops.
My question is does the relay look for a ground to be made when pulling on the p-brake? Or is it an actual signal that is being sent through the wire. If its just looking for a ground to make that relay work then i could just ground the kenwood p-brake relay and it would work whenever. Or if its looking for a signal would it be ok just to hook it up too a power wire? Don't know if it would be too many volts or whatnot. thats why i am asking.
Oh, and on the Kenwood rellay there is 3 wires coming off of it. A power wire, ground, then the wire to be hooked to the p-brake. With those wires and thinking of normal relays i would assume that the p-brake wire is power when the circuit is completed.
thanks guys.

Find a nice solid ground and ground the actual ground and parking brake wires and your good to go.

tell us how that unit fits. I am wanting to buy the doubld Din Kenwood unit aswell, but i was unsure if the shifter would get in the way of viewing and when the face slides down to insert the dvd/cd. nice purchase!

well i have an auto so that might make a difference in what you are asking. But from when i saw one on display it didn't seem like it came down all that much. But i'll let you know this weekend.

alright i got it all installed. Grounding the wire worked fine.
Now, as for the instal of this deck. Everything went fine and dandy when i was installing it only to come to realize that the reason i had no radio recepetion before was because there is no antena plug anywhere. So that pissed me off but i got over it really quick because i have sirius so i don't use the radio anyways.
It sits out of the bezel just a little further than a normal deck but thats because the face is thicker cause it has the screen. The only single problem is that i cannot open or close the unit to instal cd's with the car in park because it opens to far. If it where to sit a half of inch further back it would be fine. But thats ok because with the car in park you can't see the screen anyways. But since i can't watch the screen with the car off i can just throw it in nuetral and all is fine.
I am very impressed with this deck. The screen is very clear and the resloution is great for playin video games. It has more options then i use too. It has the ability to be on dvd/video at any time and you can listen to the radio/cd/sirius while being on these screens also. You can control what sound comes out of the front and rear speakers. Such as I can listen to a cd in the front speakers and the xbox can be coming out of the rear speakers. Not that this really works with a eclipse because the rear speakers are right behind you though. So if anyone has any questions about this deck then ask me.
For under a 1000k dollars I think this is a great alternative to buying a deck, then a screen and trying to find a place to mount it.
