Removing the thermostat is a good "no cost" way to have better cooling. Of course, where you live has a lot to do with whether or not you SHOULD do it. I'm in Southern California, so I can get away with it. The car takes a little longer to heat up. But it's a small price to pay having better cooling. So if you live in a reasonable area to do so, remove your thermostat. Anybody who knows why this might be a bad idea, please post. I did this to my last eclipse for a year, and just recently removed the thermo on my NT-turbo. So, I have no reason to believe it does any harm.

Well, I guess you could remove it. But I I think maybe a better resort would be putting a colder thermostat in. Wouldn't that do that saem thing but lower temps too? Wyatt Leras http://www.turbogs.dsmpower.com 98 Eclipse GS Star Stage 5,000 Turbo kit

Yeah, I'd feel much better about putting in a colder thermostat. I'm in VA, we get some low temps and I don't want to have to wait forever to get heat. Plus, I always baby the car until it fully warms up, so the sooner the better. Valve opening temp on thermostat is 195F for us and 180F for the turbo guys. Full opening temp of thermostat for us is 216F and 203F for the turbos. I wonder if the thermostats are interchangeable, that would be sweet. Otherwise, some research would be involved.
