#107115, "$1200 what to do."
Sep-06-09 02:45 AM by spooled420

I have $1200 comming from a side job I did and Im putting it in my car to get it running again.what I need is a transmission and bottom end and Ill be going to the wrecking yard for the trans but I have a few debates what I should do for the block...

1.since its turbo I want to rebuild the blown engine "ring land fail" with forged internals on the bottom end and skip getting a used block at the yard all togeather

OR...

2.buy a block from the wrecking yard and slap my head and my appliances on it and have my car running asap and slowly rebuild my old engine forged internals and take my time with it a little more.

if I choose 2. I can have my car running and getting me around and I like that idea but its gonna cost more money odviously but the wrecking yard by my house will charge $110 for the fully rotating block warrentied. Then build my blown block taking my time with it.

If I choose 1. then I have a built bottom end but wont have my car for a bit, possably a few months if I go through howell But it will save me cash in the long run and less work I would have to do plus another reasuring bonus of not worrying about breaking this motor.

As of right now I have a good fuel setup for 8 psi so I shouldnt break nothing for awhile if I decide to go with route 2. Help me,What would you do?Its really hard to decide for me.

Do you have a daily driver? If so rebuild your bottom end. If not, go with your second choice so you have a working car again IMO. You will be happier just building your bottom end and putting it in rather than to have to pull that all out again to swap. Honestly its up to you though. You could always find a cheap daily driver. I have a completely stock 98 Talon as a daily driver that I have $400 in including what I paid for it and it runs great and a 95 eclipse turbo build sitting in the garage. The nice thing about having a daily driver is you can go as crazy as you want on your build and not have to worry about not having a car if you break it.

Appliances? Do you plan to slap a toaster on it? Perhaps a coffee maker?

I think you mean to say your ACCESSORIES

1200 isnt going to get you far. Buy a good factory motor and save for a rebuild if you want the car driveable.

You can forge a bottom end for about 900 with bearing, but id find a shop to check out the crank and balance the entire rotating assembly with the crank pulley on.

Why did i turbo a 420a? Why is your 4g63 smoking in a ditch?

My machine hop charges $25 a piston to overbore and 55 to turn a crank. So thats come to about $1150.

Why did i turbo a 420a? Why is your 4g63 smoking in a ditch?
