Yep, amazing how much cheaper it is when you just cast a manifold without the "STAR" logo on it

Take a pic looking down at the kit.

I love the R&D that went into the fitment of that IC. Do you ever park this car in a parking lot? I hope you don't scrape the pipes off the thing. I'm not talking trash here either, you should get that thing sitting higher, or else be extreemly careful not so scrape that front end..
Found your other pics though, I do like your mani better than the star, and it looks like the fitment is a little better. Starr has shit for quality control..

I edited to the wiki!

Just because it sits a little low doesn't mean it's awful. I bet it gets the job done. I think I remember reading in corky bell that the vertical flows with more, shorter passage ways are more efficient anyways.

I personally am not a fan of how that intercooler looks, but everything else seems to be OK. I think they had another intercooler when they first came out with the kit and I liked that on better.

My friend just recently dealt with Treadstone and he wasn't too happy with the service. DSMCrazy3 here and on DSMTuners. He bought a manifold through them, great quality, but customer service kinda sucked.

they did have a different intercooler but i guess they were kinda small 6x18x2 no kits went out that way i have had quite a bit of email corespondance and it seem like a 1 guy operation aka jason stone

every thing he said was coming came but the piping was genaric so i had to but 45degree coupler a a stratit coupler and a few more tbolt clamps the fmic sits so low because i had some bracets fabed localy and the bumper wasnt on the car when it was done but the center bar on a standard tow truck clears it so im and i dont scrape any where in the street of my town can even get up some pretty steep driveways i not moving it any time soon i also had to get the down pipe welded it came with flanges and bends but had to get them welded and came with no fuel system but after all fab work and fuel system it has all cost about 2300 for a stage 2 kit then i got a few goodies i didnt need on top of that so im at about 2800 cheaper than hahn or star i believe

ps sorry no more pics ill post em later

i only blew my 420a 0nce

By all accounts, it's a good buy. We're not downing that.

But I call a spade a spade, and no matter what anyone else calls that kit, i'll call it a STAR kit, because they're exactly the same.

I guess for the price you cant ask for something perfect but if I were you i would plan on moving the filter after it rips loose from the compressor housing.

If it's working you now, great. But buy one off of ebay that fits in the opening properly when you get the money. You got a good price on all that stuff and you're taking the criticism well, unlike most other newbies.

I got my intercooler and piping for like 209 shipped on ebay. Looks and works great. I'm sure you could just find just an intercooler for even cheaper than that and it should look better.

hehe, this is why I bought a mbc and it's just sitting in my trunk.

As far as the look I don't think it's as bad as everyone is saying. Sure it doesn't fill up the whole in that bumper fully, but whatever. I might paint that bottom end tank and pipe just so it's not as noticeable sticking out from under the bumper though

Any chance you could maybe work on putting some punctuation into your posts. Just a simple comma or period makes all the difference when trying to read what you wrote.

Back on topic, I also agree that you are asking for trouble with the low fitment, but it's your call. I guess I would say leave it until you get a new one that fits the whole opening. Good job on installing the kit by yourself though. I appreciate anyone that can actually do work on their car.

Judging by all the scrapes on just his bumper, I am willing to bet that that intercooler pipe is gonna be ripped off in about a week or so

Just an FYI I have a star fmic and piping for sale in the FS section if your intrested. The fit would be perfect for your kit judging by the mani. I do like what they did with your DP though, I keep meaning to take mine to the shop and get it done so I'm not torching my starter all the time, I'm just too damn lazy to do it though...

if yours came with the same stuff as me the piping is probably about as hard as any could really get because it is just a general pipe setup and i think it was designed for a cross flow intercooler i had to do some cutting and just figure it out although the intercooler piping is probably do able without it but i had to order a 45degree coupler and a strait coupler ad 4 extra tbolt clamps and i had an entire extra intercooler pipe left you will just need to play with it for a while to see how you like it. as far as the down pipe i would get the exhaust manifold and turbo bolted on then get a local welder/muffler house make a down pipe with the bends and flanges that came with the kit, i did mine with a single bend going into the stock downpipe to make it easy to find after market exhaust and keeping the flex section.

i also had to rotate the compressor side of the turbo to aim downward and make the piping path shortest

how much did they charge you to make the downpipe?
Also is there anyway that the IC can be moved up more to keep
that bottom pipe from sticking out of the bottom of the bumper?

you could probably get the downpipe done for under 100 and the intercooler could be moved because you have to make the bracket yourself and i also kept the stock bumper support accept for the little area i cut out so you could not see it when i cut the bumper cover and so the intercooler fit better

i only blew my 420a 0nce

Dude, people have been running the exact same kit for ten years. It's a STAR kit by another name. I've had one on my car since 2000.

Congrats on being brave enough to try out a new company and saving $500 by fabricating all the extra parts missing from the kit yourself, looks like you did a good job with the exhaust. Keep us all updated on how it works out.
