#102094, "Radar detector wiring?"

Ok so my question is can i just cut the cigarette lighter end off and just wire the detector to a switch fuse that is not used?

And if you could could someone give me some tips on it.

I need my cigarette lighter to charge my cell phone...

what I've done in the past is to tap the wires going to the cigarette lighter. don't cut them if you still need the lighter.

go to the local parts store and buy a set of T taps with both the male and female ends, should run you about ~$3

when i had my 2g, i had the detector right behind the rear view mirror and tapped into the dome light. worked liked a charm and the base guards never noticed it

My Cig lighter didnt work when i got the car, I dont use it to smoke, so i got a 3-way split from autozone for like ten bucks, cut the plug off and spliced it to the main power wire for the lighter and grounded it. Now i have three outlets and i'm running a power inverter, radar detector, and charge a phone at the same time with no problem. I just ran the wire behind and into the glove box and mounted the 3-way split in the sunglasses slot.

I was about to say, just buy a 2 or 3 way split. I have a 2 splitter now, one for the radar detector and one for either GPS, Phone, or Plasma light...
