#7469, "oil return gasket"
Apr-17-06 07:00 PM by burntheblobs

The gasket that attached to the turbo and the oil return pipe. I tried to pull it off to replace it, and the tab just ripped off. This thing is like melted to the turbo. I RTVed the return line lightly and torqued the bolts down a good amount, but im still looking for a way to scrape off the gasket with the oil pan still on. PLEEEAAASSE anyone have suggestions?

Razor blade. Always get a new gasket every time you remove that tube.

I had the same problem with both ends of the tube.. I used a combination of a chissel(sp), razor blade, and some anti-adhesive spray.

spray it with wd-40 or PB Blaster (the DSMers best friend) depending on the gasket it might eat it off a little

The problem with the razor blade is that it wont fit with the oil pan still there. I am going to try some sprays.

You think a bad gasket on one side is enough to lose a quart of oil every 300 miles?

If I were you, I would just take the tube off both ends and replace both gaskets. No point in having the other side leak after you fix this one. And that is a lot of oil...are you sure that is the only place you are leaking, and that you are not burning oil? I have a constant drip from my oil pan and I only go though about 1/2 a quart every 1000 miles or so.

I just did a compression test and I got good numbers. No smoke out the tailpipe. I do keep finding a drop or two of oil under my oil cooler. The oil cooler has a coat of oil on the bottomside as well. The filter is pretty new however and it still tight. That leak would definitely get worse once the system was pressurized. Any thoughts?
