I have a 95 Eclipse GS 5 speed. I rebuilt the engine with low compression pistons and forged rods about 30k miles ago. After the initial break in, I did a compression test and got 155 across the board. I had a decent tune using the Hahn portfueler, with a/f readings in the high 11's to low 12's throughout the boost range.
It ran good for a year and a half, at 10-12 psi. We had a local dyno event, and I turned the boost up to 15 psi, hitting 297 hp to the wheels. I could hear an occasional misfire in the upper rpm's while it was on the dyno. Well, over the next 6 months, it slowly got worse until eventually it would misfire through the entire rpm range, when in boost and when not.
I did a compression test and got 125 across the board. NOT GOOD! I then did a wet test, using 2 caps of oil in each cylinder and got readings from 185 up to 240 psi.
So, I'm assuming the rings are shot. If that's the case, I will be parting it out.
I'm done throwing money into it. If I do part it out, there will be loads of great aftermarket parts priced to move. I can't afford to drive my truck all summer.

Don't loose faith. Rings aren't that much and a a piece of cake if you get a pair of ring pliers. They are cheap! When you gain HP you find the weak spots.

How did you get that assumption by anything that was said in this thread? I said pull the head, drop the pan, and unbolt the rods.....so then they could be popped out thru the top of the block and inspected.

Well, I guess there are more things that make me want to part the car out. All of ball joints are shot, along with the front suspension bushings in the lower compression arms and control arms. Also, last summer an outdoor patio gazebo flipped over on the car, causing large deep scratches everywhere. My upper radiator support is cracked due to the lower portion being rusted out where the crossmember bolts up. I know all this stuff is fixable, but the rings going seems to be the final straw.
