I was just kinda wondering what it was like for you guys the day you bought your car.

Car = 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 5 spd non turbo
Price = $9,200.00 (that's including tax and title)
Miles = 71,000 miles
D.O.P. = 10-15-02

My car as of late. It's gettin there...

mmmm I disagree. Most seem to be good prices, remeber though that retail values vary from state to state. Mine was $6995 before tax title and fees and the bank would of loaned me up to $8000 and they go by NADA book value.

the thing is...for the past few years ive seen low milage well-taken-care-of late model 2gs for around 5k. its insanely easy to find a cheap 2g these days, so when people are paying 9-10k for them it just seems ridiculous. even if you take into consideration how long ago you bought your car, most of you got ripped off. dont be pissy about it, just accept it.

Sorry if I sounded pissy.......lol.......your right too though, if you really look good you can find some crazy deals. I wonder if its because the 3rd generation came out. I know this happens alot when companies start a new body style. Either way if you like your car and you DONT feel like you got ripped off then its all okay right

I purchased my 95 eclipse with 80k miles off a auto dealer auction (uncle is car dealer...the car was a returned lease car, 1 previous owner...a chick, btw did i mention i found a picture of her flashing her hooters in my car when i cleaned it up....) for 3500 bucks not bad, paint in EXELLENT condition (only problem was a rear shock so i changed that and it was ready to roll)

Ok. ill post. I was the second owner, and the rear struts were gone, and the 5th gear in the tranny was JUST beginning to pop out. and no speedo. But it came lowered, tinted, and silver rims.

Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.

Money I never had to pay and he had no choice but to eat! And he can't ever come back on me if he want's to stay in business. Had to replace front rotors and pads and a couple of sensors. He earned it!! Wouldn't say I got a bad deal but the dealer sure did!

So now at 44 what the hell do I do?

This is my first post here so I think its fit to post my car in here to introduce myself. I'm Byron from columbus, Indiana and I just got a 2gnt in the past few weeks.

Anyways, already put a CAI onto it, getting the hookup on some 17' enkei rims with tires this week for $600. Then in about a month, i'm going with a full catback or just a gst muffler.

Well My 95 RS I bought in August of 03 from my cousin for $6k and totalled it in July of this year.

So I bought my 96 GS in Spetember of this year for $620.00 with a blown motor. and as soon as I get home from this Dust hole we like to call Iraq I'll be pulling my complete drivetrane out of the 95 to drop into the 96. (damn it's nice to have spare parts).

Black, all power, stocker than stock minus a few amp wires and a speaker level imput kit wired into the stock cd player....which decides when it wants to work. Car was sitting for six months and when dude told me that, i just had to buy it. I've seen too many good cars go to waste simply because they're sitting there unused.

The paint is in bad shape. A few tiny rust spots.....a few dings here and there. The driver side fender is pushed in where it touches the bumper, the passenger door handle is missing and the valve cover gaskets are shot. The header is also cracked. Everything else seems fine....oh wait, my input shaft bearing makes that nasty grind when everything is cold and now i need to bleed my clutch because the whore really doesn't want to go into gear sometimes.

She needs some love so about a month ago, i paid $1500 bucks for it thinking there'd be a 4g63 under the hood. No. To my surprise, a neon motor. Good, because no crank walk.....bad because it takes alot of work to get power from these dodge powered 2g's....

It's a project car. I knew what to expect for $1500 from a college kid. Only 114,000 miles. Same as my friend's 98 gst. Pray for his car because his brother trashed the front drivers side when he hit a gaurdrail. Split his 18" mesh wheel straight down the middle and now his car needs more work than mine. Our dsm's were beaten relentlessly.

Long post. Despite all, i love my car and i'm happy with my decision to buy it. It occupys ALOT of time and takes my mind of more troubling things which is good.

Originally my DSM was in NEW MEXICO, Yes Near Cali, Brand NEW off the floor retaild at lil' over 21,000. Then she was Repo'd and shipped to East Coast, Near my area.

So, yes Body is in Excellent shape and some rust underneath but Surface-rust, DUE to the Weather and on the West Coast.

Oh, yes my DSm will be turbo'd only Body mods I have now is a real VIS CF HOOD and will add a CF Hatch and go Wingless soon. Performance wise now I have a INJEN RD FULL CAI system with bypass valve. NA, right now I'm terror on the road due to my Injen CAI, sounds like my dads 06 FATBOY when I start my car,lol Racing after my Injen on I spanked my Brother's Mazda MX5, He was talking trash about his 5 speed,since I'm the old fart by his terms OLDer I had to shut him up with my ATX DSM. Looked like he cried with a smile.

Miles = 129,000 miles (just swapped in a new 420a)
D.O.P. = 09/15/05

This was an early birthday present to myself as a car to get me around town in and it needed work obviously for the price, lots of work it turned out engine wise, also a paint job. I let it sit for about a year and a half since I carpool and just recently dropped in a engine with 25k miles on it, I have since put on 5000 miles on the new engine over the past two months since I still carpool from time to time.

My car isn't gray, the paint is just fading.

Had a grand am, wanted an Eclipse forever but didn't have the extra cash. Someone ran into my car, insurance wrote it off, and I picked this up. The guy also included CAI, Goldline springs (which I traded for coilovers on ca.dsm.org), a 12" MTX Thunder subwoofer, and projector headlights. These were all still new in boxes.

Car already had a carbon fiber hood on it, and gunmetal-painted 16" Talon Tsi wheels (from a 1G). Only thing is it ran really shitty.

My buddy built his 420A neon, and did an EGR bypass. We put his EGR transducer onto my car, and after a couple re-starts, it ran fine!

it throw a rod on the guy in mid-late 02 and sat behind a shop until i bought it.in that time a thief tied to steal it and busted out the sunroof and 1/4 glass that the shop didn't cover up and the car took a lot of water damage to the insides.

the day i brought it home i gutting the insides and coved the broken glass and there it sat for over a year until oct 04 when i put in a motor from a guy on here,only to have to put it back in the shop for a head job.

since then i don't beleave there is a single part on the car that i didn't remove for replacement.not saying that in a bad way as the car has never left me on the side of the road and has been nothing sort of 100% reliable .even when the clutch was as warn as it could be it still got me to where i needed to go.just there was alot of stuff like a black dash,leather seats,power windows,99 eclipse front and rear ect that i wanted.

This site and this car has taught me so much about cars and just man made things in general.i used to feel like these things were so complicated,but after i worked on them i saw that they were easier then your everyday crossword puzzle..

Haven't picked it up yet. I bought it through ebay, talked to the owner on the phone had him give me more details and email more pics. Also ran a carfax on it, and looks like the first owner put all the mileage on the car and at the same time was having it serviced at the dealership. The current owner says it stopped running shortly after a "knocking" sound started then tried starting it later. It started but ran rough and that he said he didn't want to run it again for fear it might cause more damage. We'll see when we get it home and pull the motor. I'll update in a new topic when I have more info. The plan is to rebuild the motor with a few mods with an eye on more performance in a year or so.

No body or interior damage, needed an a/c compressor which I picked up at a salvage yard for $65. Other than the transmission, practically every moving part had been replaced including a new engine, new tires, brakes, clutch, etc.
