So, my 360 finally died tonight. It was a launch console that gave me years of faithful service; She came home with me November 22nd 2005. Recently it seemed to be having an identity crisis. If you put in a game disc, it would say: "To play this game put it in an Xbox360 console." :/ Anyway, I suppose I am one of a handful of people that were hoping for this to happen, since she was out of warranty. RROD means a free repair/replacement. Has this happened to any of you guys?

sounds like the dvd drive is just going out. you could probably open the xbox and mod it to fix that problem(maybe). it will still play the original games but the checks and balances to make sure it is legitimate code will be gone.

just a thought.

I know for a fact that the drive is completely gone; Kind of like holding a standard ide/sata cdrom, turning it an listening to is spin freely. Same thing in this instance. But I can wait a few weeks for a free replacement. Games are better on the PC anyhow. After I get the new/replacement unit. I'm going to mod it anyway. I was just holding off until it died so it could be tip-top before I could never send it back again.

I would disagreee about the PS3, I had 7, yes 7 PS2's. 2 imports, 5 domestics. Every one died within 3 months of me owning it. I will NOT get involved in the fan-boy wars. That's the end of that. All I would say is: My first xbox (XB1) with X-ecuter3 mod is still running strong, even after I've had 4 more PS2's. Plus all of the title s for PS3 I want to play can be had on the 360...Save GT5...And they charged you $60US for the demo... The Blu-ray argument is right out... I have Blu-Ray player/burner in my desktop... Eventually I MIGHT buy one...But not until they drop below $275US.

Reason why your 360 got fried is because you didn't buy the intercooler/fan for it.
Checkout gamestop.com they have them for a resonable price

The older 2g ps2 would last longer than the newr is the fans built in.

I agree about the 1g kbox my step dad has one its still going strong, its been thru. hell only problem is the drive sometimes has to be pushed back in by hand.

I really don't think that to be the case, as it wasn't a thermal failure. The drive just wore out.

When I managed an EB, I used to always sell the Intercoolers with them.

Until three of them came back with the Intercooler melted to the 360.

We just had to get a new 360, but to no fault of Microsofts. It was knocked down from six feet up. Still worked fine, just froze every half hour or so. Thats why they make the best buy warranty

You'd think with as loud as the 360 is that it would stay super cool.
