#2219, "HELP! Rear Swaybar touching exhuast piping!"

I installed a rear swaybar from a TSi today, boy it was easy, just getting under the car was the hard part. Anyway I realized that part of the bar is touching the Exhuast piping. The bar is steel but it's under pressure and gets really hot in one spot. I painted it with engine enamel but it's only good up to 500 degrees and I see the paint melting already. I'm afraid it might warp the bar or something. Is there something I can put in between or should I move my exhuast piping up a little so it doesn't touch. It's like touching kind of hard like you can't bend it so it doesn't touch. Oh yeah the piping in that area was rerouted so I can use a performance muffler that has an inlet in the center instead of the side like the stock muffler so that's why it's touching.

On another note the car doesn't seen to handle extrememly better but launches are better, and there is a lot more oversteer because I can do U turns good now and I did a left foot brake and the cars tail started sliding!

Hades....this is what I did....

Take some long zip ties and rap them around the rubber hangers that suspend the rear section of the exhaust. I used two ties per hanger. When you tighten the ties as tight as you can get them while pushing up on the mounts connected to the hangers, it will actually raise it up a bit. It might not seem that much but it works.....for me at least. I saw this in a Super Street mag a while back. They did it to a Subaru Imprezza because it had an oversized sway bar and 3" exhaust. Hope this helps.

Well I tried it a couple days ago and man it's a bitch trying to get that tie in there. I didn't use nylon ties because I only had tiny ones. But I had a metal clamp from my old intake that I use to scrunch it up and it worx great. I used a jack to push the exhust pipe up (with a block of wood on it too) and tightened the hell out of it, which took like an hour to do the whole thing. Well hope this helps someone else! ^_^

...'cause I've had RMDSM -AWD- sway bars on my car for the last year. It was touching my aftermarket muffler but I got a GST muffler and slighly moved it as well to fit. DAMN was it worth it.

How thick are the bars for the GSX? I know the GST are 19mm front and 12mm rear (or was it 13mm, well it was flimsy anyway). I never want to touch the front again!

21mm front and rear but I think they are closer to 19 or 20 like Deano told me. I really should check it out for myself
