#3590, "ms&s - what do i need"

ok, so i want to go with a ms&s but i'm still confused after hours of reading. what do i need to complete a unit and where should i buy it. as far as i know, the v2.2 has a map sensor and i can use the rest of my stock sensors right? i just don't know what pieces i need and what ones i don't.

got that megasquirt!

I sent you an email to read. You do use the sensors for the MS and leave the stockers alone (IAT and CLT). for the crank sensor you will piggyback the factory sensor.

No every version does not need it. It is just a choice of many choices. Did Terry set you up with internal ignitors? Are you just wondering about 5 pin mitsu versus 7 pin mitsu?

If Terry set you up with internals, then you won't need the mitsu's. If not then you can use either 5 pin or 7 pin. Doesn't really matter. I have used both.

The MSNS you have is direct wire to coil triggers. No externa ignitor needed.

You need to take a look at the settings, most likely the spark is still turned off. I do that so people do not try to run spark without a decent fuel map and damage their motor. If you havent tuned your fuel map then you should not be trying to run spark.

If you open the current map and then save it to your laptop then you should be fine. If not then there must be something with the way you have it setup in your PC.

I know there were like 8 errors most people would get and they were due to the fact that the maps were saved on my pc (with its current setup) and opened with a different laptop. I tested this to be true with 2 laptops I have.

so, the tuning is coming along very well now but for some reason i'm getting tach spikes at idle and while cranking. when i crank, the tach on the laptop shows 2k or more. that makes the ecu run on ve and not crank. so it dumps mad fuel and no start-o. it usualy starts with flood clear but right when i get the idle smooth the tach spikes return and the little green ball jumps all over the table and the engine stalls.

got that megasquirt!

check all conns and make sure they are taped very well. Also if you didnt do it, the grounds to the MS should be run to the battery ground on the strut tower. Also some people reported that the MS touching metal of the vehicle created ground noise so make sure that isnt your case.

If all that is good you want to look into why your crank signal is noisy.
The MS itself shouldnt be an issue, you have the v2.2 and that unit was tested on my car with no spikes.

i allready grounded to the neg. cable and still getting the spikes. i bought a noise filter but i'm not exactly sure what i'm going to do with it. where is the noise most likly coming from? i determined that the starter is responsible for most of it but after cranking i still get some.

If your getting tach spikes more during cranking then you must have a ground issue somewhere. Start going through all the underhood grounds.

will do, i,ll try on sunday. i grounded the ecu better with a bigger bolt and wrenched the hell out of it and eliminated the idle spikes but the crank problem is bad. would it be cause the starter needs to be grounded better?

Yes that could do it. ensure the entire circuit to the starter has good conns. You can also try and use a 4ga wire with ring terminals and run it from the batt to the block ground to see if it improves.

ok, i tried a cap on the crank wire and the power wires and a huge filter on the power wires and no improvement. i'm gonna buy a thousand feet of huge wire tomorrow and million rings and ground my engine like a spider web.

well, everything that was on the ecu when i got it from you was lost cause i didn't know what i was doing and messed with everything and burned the 720cc table then made changes to that. i don't know if some settings are bad or what but the spikes at idle are only below 800rpm. any higher and it's smooth. the cranking spikes are still out of control. it starts fine when its cold but verry hard when warm.

got that megasquirt!

ok, i wraped the crank wire in metal tape to try to block noise. of coarse it did nothing. i'm gonna try to find a place in vegas to fix and fine tune it for me cause i'm thinkin about pulling it off and doing an exorcism on it. then it will be for sale. i'm verry dissapointed in this unit.

I checked mine, no tach spikes during cranking. You have 2 options, you can have someone else look at it or you can send it to me and I can verify or deny it by hooking into my car.
