#138590, "Mystery Wire (Help Identify)"

I was replacing a clutch this weekend, and noticed (when I popped the axles and could easily see up the backside of the block)... that I had a yellow wire that was cut, and I can't figure out what it is supposed to connect to.

It was in the loom with the alternator's power wires, but broke away from the alternator half way behind the block. I pulled off all of the loom, and took some pictures of the connector (wire harness) where it originates from... I'm hoping someone here can help me identify where it's supposed to go!

Help please!
- J

I want to say its the power wire for the VSS, crank, and cam sensors 8v+ ref, but that's just my assumption by going off wire colors from an ECU pinout.

Have you driven or tried to drive the car since noticing the wire?

Looks to me like it's the wire for the stock oil pressure sensor for the dash light. I swapped the connector on my 95, which is a 2-wire, to the 97-99 style which is a single wire connector. Iirc it is a solid yellow wire so that could be what it's from. Did you notice the stock connector while you were poking around back there?

HMmmmmmmmm.......... yes, the car has been driving just fine (except slipping clutch of course). However, I will say the idiot light aka oil light doesn't work in my dash... know that for certain. Is the sender/sensor not then connector in the bottom right of the first pic? (Right above oil filter)... none of the connectors pictured were missing any wires. The car is a 1997, where is this 1-wire sensor?

The stock location for the oil pressure sensor is right below the mystery wire on the side of the block closest to the trans. You have the T for the oil feed for the turbo and the aftermarket oil pressure sensor there.
