Im pretty sure i already know the answer but wanted to double check. Im getting a 98 eclipse and putting my 96 motor in it. Am i going to have to get sensors from a 98 engine or will the 96 ones work?

If I can remember correctly I did the exact same swap as you a 96 engine in a 98 body. If im not mistaken the oil pressure sensor(on the back of the block closest to the transmission) is different. The only reason I remember that is because it was a really big socket used to remove it. The knock sensor (the one in the middle) I believe is the same. Now for the crank sensor(closest to the alternater) is definately different. There are square ones and more roundedones. I dont remember which one you need but whatever the 98 has, use that one. I tried to use the 96 one in the 98 by cutting and splicing the wires. I highly recommend not doing this!it didn't work. A 10mm holds that sensor to the block. It is also held in by an o-ring. Becareful not to break the sensor when removing it from the block. good luck with the swap.
Ohh and one more thing. The 96 that my engine came out of utilized a fuel return line, so insted of changing fuel rails, I just swapped intake manifolds. Everything else should just plug and play.

my mother has a 95 talon, body converted to a 2gB due to a wreck, i have a 99 gs DD, the cam position sensor is a circle pin connector on the 95-96, the 97-99 is a flat pin connector, so u will have to use the 97-99 CPS, the tempature sending unit is also different for the 95-96, to the 97-99, you will need one of those, the coil is also different, it has the same circle pin on the 95-96, and flat pins on the 97-99, i know cuz when i ordered the MSD coil for my mothers car and one for mine they are different part numbers and when i tried one on mine it didnt connect, tried the other it connected perfictly, depending on if you have the guage or the idiot light the oil preasure sensor will be different, aside from that, those are the only things that are different.
