I did some map reading tonight and I think the best way for us to make the trip will be as follows:

Starting in Phoenix (of course)...
up i17 to Flagstaff, AZ
east on i40 all the way to Tucumcari, NM
NE on US54 into Wichita, KS
up i35 (KS turnpike) to KC, MO
east on i70 to St Louis, MO
continuing east on i70 through Indianapolis, IN
continuing east on i70 into Columbus, OH
maybe take the i71 north towards Mansfield, OH
after that I think we'll just be following DSMs into Norwalk anyways, so we'll figure that out later.

I still have to talk to the rest of the Die Hards here in Phoenix to see if we want to make the drive in 3 days or 4. I f we did it in 3 it would take us 13, 12 and 10 hours each day to drive it. 4 days would give us pretty close to four 8 hour days. We'll see, but I wanted to get this up so others might see where we're coming from and decide "wtf! I'll go to the shootout too!" Hopefully we would meet up with Dino, Thura and the rest of the Texans along the way somewhere. We're probabaly going to have an RV with giant 2GNT banners on it or something. That would be cool imo.

Damn you!!!! I was hoping you were going to go through Chicago. I understand if it is too far out of the way, but there is ALOT of us in the chicago area. Also the Indiana toll road(80/90) has the highest speed limit in Indiana, and it's a straight shot to Norwalk. If it would help you brian we could all post a mapquest with a star in our general vicinity?

what is the speed limit or what do they allow you to go and not get fucked with??? speed limit is 65 GHEY!!! but they let you got 75-77mph and really don't mess with you at all, if traffic is heavy you can do 80-82. Any other roads in indiana your looking at 55-60mph MAX! Unfortuneately most indiana cops are hmm strict so you don't get away with much speeding.

if you guys shoot through indianapolis i will join up, if you guys shoot through chicago and straight over on 80/90, i will join up. do you have a tentative date on when you would be in indy. i would like to leave friday morning but if you guys will be here friday sometime during the day, it would be no big deal. i am also planning to leave norwalk on the following monday after a good nights rest. i only have four hours drive but it seems like forever, i cant imagine you guys driving 31+ hours. that is more hours than i work at my day job in a week. LOL.

Well, considering Chicago would be cool, I looked into it.

From St Louis to Norwalk by way of Indy is about 550miles.
From St Louis to Norwalk by way of Chicago is about 600 miles.

That's going to be an extra hour of driving on the last leg which stands to be the hardest one imo. I still have to see what the rest of the Phoenix people think about this route. I think it's going to be tough to beat, but you never know.

So far, I'm thinking of making it into Norwalk on Thurday night, so we have all day Friday to get the cars cleaned up and the oil changed (after that kind of drive) and all that. The we will be rested for the festivities Friday night I think. If this turns out to be the case, we would be rolling into Indy mid- to late-morning on the 14th. We're also staying until Monday AM to leave on a good night's sleep too.

the 14th is saturday buddy.... if you want to be to norwalk on thursday, you might wan to be rolling through indy on thursday morning and you would get there roughly noonish or early afternoon(2-4 depending on traffic and "unforseen" difficulties, we drive dsms afterall.)

From St Louis to Chicago:
294 miles
From Chicago to Norwalk:
296 miles
Total: 590 miles (approx. 10 hours drive)

From St Louis to Indianapolis:
243 miles
From Indianapolis to Norwalk:
287 miles
Total: 530 miles (approx. 9 hours drive)

After 4 days on the road to get there, I think we're going to be looking to shave time anyway we can. At this point, we're even looking into renting a couple RVs so maybe we can drive straight through...

I think, not sure, but I think the Texas boys will be taking I-35 north all the way to St. Louis. That could be the mega meeting point. I will have to talk to Thura about the route they took last year, but I bet it goes through MO/KC.

I think last year that Dino and Thura went east out of TX to stay a night at Dino's (insert the family member I can't recall)'s house. To go north to OKC, would mean a bit of back-tracking west for some people.

If you guys did roll north on the 35 to OKC and into Wichita (en route to KC and then STL) that would be cool as hell. We could have a dozen or so DSMs rolling into Wichita at once. This would be the single most important thing to ever happen in Kansas imo. Never have they seen something as cool as that!

You know, despite your lack of interest in driving too chicago, or thru chicago, outside of so-cal there is no larger group than that IN chicago. I know personally if you are planning on skimming a max of 1 hour off your time, you will be missing alot of guys that would really enjoy being in THE caravan. If you choose to drive thru indy you have to think about traffic and the speed limits in that area, as opposed to the roads going north. I know you have to drive farther than anyone else... and i understand that you want to make it there ASAP at that point. Just consider what it would mean to the guys in chicago if you made it up there, like the texas guys did last year. Once you hit the illinois state line you can hit 85mph all the way to ohio... nowhere else will you get to shave time like that.... and 80/90 is a STRAIGHT shot to norwalk! If you decide against that, im still rolling with the chicago boys!

Do0d. I just said I have to make sure everyone here in AZ who is going wants to add an hour onto the trip at that point. We still have time to decide. I like the idea of a straight interstate into Norwalk since our tentative route, although shorter, would run through some smaller roads in northern Ohio that I am not looking forward to travelling. If the entire caravan is rolling into Chicago, then that's what we might just do. It's still over 7 months away man. Be cool.
