anyone know if i can make the 2005 neon shift levers work in my 95 eclipse. im putting in the 05 tranny into my 95 2gnt eclipse and i am having trouble changing the levers and i'd really rather not bother with it anymore.. they look so similar im wondering if anyone knows for a fact a reason why it just wont work..

All the Neon levers I have seen utilize an "E" clip to secure the cables to the Levers. All Eclipse 2gnt tranny's used a cotter pin. Either should work if you use the right clips/pins.

Thats what i'd like to hear. I'd love just to grab an E clip and be done with this thing because i'm having a freeeeaking hell of a time getting one of the levers off of the eclipse tranny. There are definate differences though that i've observed: one of the neon the levers are .5 inches longer than its eclipse counterpart and has a slight step in it as well. If i were a brave man i'd say fwck it and go forth but im sure i'll spend the better part of tomorrow trying to pound the other lever pin free.

longer shift lever means you will have a longer throw on the shifter. after your install exercise the shifter to make sure it will be a change that can be lived with.

ooohhhh.. *grin* well i got the damned lever off and installed the proper lever but im making a mental note because i might get back in there later and see if i cant make it more of a short throw feel with the neon levers and have it all work proper. thanks a lot all.

I think you missed the point made by Terry. If the Neon lever is longer than using that arm will require more travel by the shifter to achieve the same result.
Again, if in fact the neon shift lever is longer and you decide to run it you will have a longer throw, not shorter.

touche sir. well played...
I do maintain though that the neon lever is shorter than the one on the eclipse. You'd have to excuse my sloppy guessing i did earlier. The neon shifter measures to be about 3/4 inch shorter then the eclipse lever. That is measuring from the center of the transmission mounting hole to the center of the cable mounting point. Slope was taken into account. That is the comparison of the longer levers of the two transmissions and i still am holding hopes that it might some day make for a neat shift feel modification.
