#788, "major tranny prob!!!! 5th and 4th"

Ever since we got the car 5th has always popped out so I learned to hold it in for now. Now a new problem has come up where 4th gear will not come out at all. When I shift into 4th all feels well but when I try to take it out I have to stop the car and really jar the crap out of the stick to get it out. When moving it'll grind like it's trying to go into 2 gears at once. While driving I can get it out of 4th sometimes but then it won't go into any other gear. REally takes a hard time with the stick to get it to free up. The stick has always acted like it had a little slop in it but I've always passed that up. When the gear stuck in 4th I tried using the levers on top of the tranny to work it out but 1 HOT MOTOR and 2 Configned space and 3 not budging kept that from happening. Any ideas?

Since 5th gear needs replacing anyway and the 4th gear sticking proble may be a bent fork I'm looking to just replace it. What all tranny's swap over?

Here's what I know so far after searching...
Dodge avenger (years???)
Chrysler Sebring (years???)
Talon esi and eclipse rs / gs 95 -99
and Dodge neon but have to swap out bell housing.

Any others?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I dont think they have a manual trans sebring. I know that the neon tranny will work, but you have to swap bellhousings, and I believe it has taller gears as well.

Avenger 1995-97
Cirrus 1995-97
Eclipse Non Turbo 1995-97
Eclipse Spider 1997
Neon 1995-97
Sebring 1995-97
Stratus 1995-97
Talon Non Turbo 1995-97

There I finally found the entire list. All these have the NV-T350

For some reason they also call it the A578 hmm go figure must be the taller gearing in that one. Don't know for sure but the list is all the cars with that tranny.

I just found a 98 trans with 31K on it. Looks good too I'll be picking it up in a week. Any way I know the bell is different I know about the mounts needing moved over I know the gearing may be different pending on car it came out of. And I know the counter ballance weight needs to be chopped.

WHAT I DON'T KNOW IS... If the trans has teh different gearing does it affect the speedo? or does the speedo pick up it's signal after the final gearing is done? In other words will I have to have the speedo corrected to show correct speed or not?

Speedo gear is off of the diff, so it is already accounted for. Just swap everything over, and enjoy. Your speedometer should be all set.

Thanks man that question has been driving me crazy worrying about it now that I found a 31k milage neon R/T and they're selling the tranny for $200. Now to hope the swap out goes smoothly.
