I did a search and couldn't find anything. I have a manual tranny. i did some work on it, Now i have to put the bellhousing back on. I need to know what sealant to use and how much to torque the bolts down.

It's red loctite. MAKE SURE you don't mess up when putting it back together and the loctite isn't able to completely seal because you WILL have a leak afterwords.

anearobic gasket maker. don't know if that what red loctite is, but i used the anearobic gasket maker the second time and it hasn't leaked at all.

"red loctite" in this context probably means Loctite 518 (or 51817) which is an anaerobic sealant that's very expensive and hard to find but good. I picked up a huge tube from Toyota for $40. A 5ml starter tube like the one below should be enough for the tranny, that's usually $8-15.

$40 holy crap, if I what I think this stuff is I found a big tube for 14 dollars at winchester auto. I guess that wasn't expensive then hehe....

sorry to resurect an old post, but can anyone tell me for sure if this is the right stuff and how much will I really need to seal up the bell housing??? TIA, Don

you dont need to seal the bellhousing. You wont be able to getit back apart later if you use lock tite you will crack some thinf pring on it

NO Anarobic sealer or anyother gastket makers is different from the thread locking compound your thinking of. Anarobic sealer stays in its jelly like form till it is completely absent of air in its environment and only paper thin ( if that).

IT IS LOCTITE 518 or equivalent. Same stuff as on your block, cam seals etc.

I would use hondabond. I used it for my honda case, get it from the dealer.
