#1, "Reverse gear sensor - replacing"

The lights don't come on when engaging reverse gear. They haven't for a long time actually, I'm just getting around to fixing it now.

Anyway, I read a previous post about jiggling it around a bit, but that it didn't change anything. So, I need to replace the sensor. Any tips on the process? I figure you just need to screw out the present sensor and put in a new one. Any gotchas along the way?

Alright, I'm not the only one who needs to do this. I even have the sensor in the garage... somewhere. Should be a simple afair of unscrewing the old and screwing in the new, should be no problem with fluid since it's on top of the trans.

I'm there with you guys. Mine hasn't worked in 3 or 4 months. It's pretty easy to do. No little things to look out for. Straight forward.

Use a 22mm deep socket. A long extension and a pivot head attachment helps.

Thank you drive through.

$58... don't remember it being that high. Call up Bob Kise/Forum Dodge: (810) 714-3300. He gives a 2GNT discount and has outstanding prices on Diamler Chrysler parts.

yeah, the reverse light switch is on the trans itself. It is almost directly under the wiring harness that clips to the ECU.

I just picked up the sensor from the local DC dealer for $32.08. The guy at the parts counter just shook his head when I told him what the Mitsu shop wanted.

I expect that switch to be between $15 and $20 if you were to call Bob Kise at Forum Dodge.

Get the OEM ones.Better yet, use the ones from your A/T. They are the same. Don't just hit up a hardware store for these, as you need the strength rating that the dealership bolts have.
Don't skimp here.
Use an O2 sensor socket for the reverse light sensor, by the way, in case you don't happen to have a 22MM deep socket kicking around. You might have an O2 sensor socket, and it is more helpful if you need to go buy a socket.

I was able to take out the reverse switch with a 22mm box wrench but only had the room to do so because of a CAI. It is made of "brass" and is soft so I wouldnt recomend using plyers. Anyway I played with the ball berring end by pushing it up and sprayed carb cleaner into it then rubbed it on a rag, just like a ball point pen, until it left no marks. Put the thing back in and what do ya know I have backup lights again. I tested it about 5 times and it's still working so we'll see how long it lasts...

i did what the guy above me did (but brake parts cleaner), and guess what? i saved myself the trip to satan, and around 30-40. all i spent was $8.00 for a 22mm deep well socket, rubbed it on rags and stuff and whallah, it workee again.
