1998 Eclipse GS, 100,000 miles No mods, not raced or ragged out

For the past three weeks, I've somewhat been having some trouble with my car. I'm not very mechanical, so I will try to describe this the best that I can.

When I try to accelerate (more than very very slowly) the car starts to shake and won't accelerate or shift. You have to release the gas for it to stop shaking and try again. Most of the time this happens while going around 50 mph. (If you slow down to 50, then try to speed back up, it'll start shaking and won't speed up.) It does the same if you're going up an incline at any speed. As far as I know it only seems to do this when its in 2-3 gear. Very rarely 1st, and never in the 4th.

In just the past few days while stopped at a light the car seems to want to launch forward, like it was hit from behind. ( Always have to look and make sure I wasn't hit because that's how it feels! )

The fluids are fine as far as I've checked., though we're going to perform a flush this weekend anyways just in case its something hiding in there.

So right now I've looking for some suggestions to check before I take it to the shop and drop down a load of cash.

I really appreciate any and all help that I can get.

Thank you

Well I would say of course do the fluid and filter. You should have the tcm scanned and ecm scanned for fault codes. I would say this might not even be tranny related, It could be your cat convertor is plugged up. It could be the plug wires, its hard to say. When was the last time those 2 were changed along with the fuel filter.

So I would suggest you change the fluid and filter, do a complete tune-up. If that doesn't work I would look at the cat. It could still be other issues but those are guesses.

Check your mounts atx and engine, I bet its the IAT sensor. This hasn't to mine which is atx also, but my mothers neon is doing the same thing.

I'd also would have you to take your car to a chrysler dealer they can run scan check for errors free estimate. Just have them write down which codes its thrown and they'll give you a price/labor estimate and buy the parts yourself/ replace them yourself it'll save some dough. If not buy your parts and have them put them on for you, average labor is 25 to 50.

After you get them to scan your car post them.

Well, I had taken it in to get the Diagnosis, and found that it is not a Transmission problem. Yay for me.

It said that Cylinder 2 was misfiring. Easily fixable by a tune up; if only the parts were actually available... We put in the new spark plugs, but had to order the wires. They said a coil would also be needed, and that is being taken care of as well. (Should have her back up and going 100% before the end of the month hopefully )

So I guess this can be closed. o.o;;

Thank you all.
