#2956, ""Double-clutching like ya should" MmMMmmmm! Tasty!"
After reading many a post about double clutching here lately, I decided it was time I give it a try. I made my first attempt at an off ramp where I could lose some speed if I flubbed it and not look to obvious. After a couple tries, I think I got the hang of it. Needless to say, it's pretty fucking cool once you get it down! I still need to work on it a bit more, but I like this stuff. I can see where it could be real useful in autoX or just when you need to hand someone their ass. Did so just last night, but I'll put that post where it belongs!
FYI - if you haven't yet, you should really give this a try. It's sweet!
From what I gather, double clutching is done primarily when downshifting to slow for a corner without causing a shift in the balance of the car caused when the transmission surges to accommodate for the higher rpm requirement of the current speed of the vehicle.
Double clutching is, unless I missed a revelation in 2GNT definitions in the past 24 hours or so, engaging the clutch, releasing while in neutral, reving the engine to bring the rpms up, then clutching, and engaging in the desired gear with the engine et al up to speed. Not really neccessary with our modern transmissions, but very nice when one desires to accelerate in a lower gear without having that lurch you get when you just drop it into 4th. (or 3rd)
I was not wanting to slow for an apex since I was on the freeway, but I DID want to get a bit higher into the rpms without any momentary delays in order to expedite my circumvention of the douche bag in the Solara. I sincerely hope this is the proper use of the term as I would certainly despise any actions that may misconstrue my actions in posting this narrative as "rice."
If you think you've mastered double clutching, try matching rpms well enough so that you don't even need the clutch. Now THAT'S fun to show off to your friends. I used to practice on my Escort (first car ) and by the time I had my RS I already had it down pat.
The syncros allow for some margin for error when shifting up or down, if you want to do it without the clutch. IMO no clutch is just lazy, yes it can be done, and easily. But use that left leg, build some muscle up.

or when you have no clutch...
amiller99rs: seriously, chicks suck sometimes amiller99rs: like if a girl walked by and said "Hey, nice cock" and just kept going you'd smile all day about that
