#2124, "NE1 here into Road Racing, Autox, or Drifting?"

Just wondering if ne1 does the above or has interest in it. I don't go on the racing forum often and I decided to peep it out and all I see is this vs this or 1/4 miles this and 1/4 mile that.

I have auto-x'd 2 out of the last 3 years. Spent all my free time tuning my car at the strip this past summer, but I'll be doing the auto-x thing again next year. I would love to go road racing, but I'm skeered to ding up my car.

I do autocross once in a while. Not too often but it is something I do at least a couple of times a year.

Also, since I help out with a college Formula SAE team, (cars built specifically for autocross, using 600cc motorcycle engines typically and weighing in less than 500 lbs.) autocross is something I keep up with on a regular basis. There just are not many people to talk about it here

I would like to get into road racing. I just don't know anywhere around here that holds events for something like that. We have auto-xing up here from time to time. I haven't ran the course yet but it looks like fun.

I'd really love to go into a driving school to learn how to better handle my car, how to take turns properly, when to brake and how to shift before a turn, etc etc. I can't seem to find anything in the pennsylvania area to take a course though.

If anything, i'm going to try to take a weekend course at the BMW driving school in south carolina (i think it's SC) during the summer. Driving M cars all day? gotta be fun.

theallpowerfulme- You think that tire looks bad? I should get someone to host a pic of my rear tires.

I had fun trying to get around in the snow already. I can't let go of the gas cause I go sidewayz

I'm all about road racing!! I got bitten by the bug by going to last year's Carlisle NASA road racing program during their Compact Car show that is held every year around beginning of may. Those around the PA region should DEFINITIVELY enjoy. Even though their track is fairly small (i mean really small), it is enough fun to be had and still be safe (meaning you dont ding up your car!).

NASA is probably the best club to start out into road and autox racing. NASA holds WHOLE WEEKENDS at Willows Grove (name may be wrong) which is a full fledged road course in PA. You pay $40 bucks, you race all weekend. Period. It kicks ass. No speed limits. Just you and your car and the road. Its the most awesome thing that can be done. If my car didnt blow chunks right after carlisle (those that were there saw how much i beat on it - road raced all weekend and still pulled 26psi on race gas on the dyno hehe - i would have joined Willow Grove last year.

Now that my car is rebuilt, I plan on making full use of the road courses in the tri-state area of PA/MD/DE/NJ during the warm season.

Mystic - give me a howler sometime dude. We can head up to willow grove and check it out. Best way to learn your car's ability and not do any damage since you will be in a track and without a car near you and without walls or curbs

Carlisle PA show rules! haha missed it last year but the year before was a blast. I am going this year though lots of cars, women, and beer.

I am very big into hitting up the "back roads" (not off road just the roads less traveled with tons of turns ). Can't wait to get my eclipse running the roads here are so nice, fast paced with a few nice sharpe turns I got into "back roading" in my old town we used to go out late at night in groups of about 4-5 people and just go nuts on the back roads it was alot of fun and only had 2 incidents with people missing a turn lol nobody ever got hurt just a banged up front bumper. Anybody new that wants to do it I highly recomend you start off in the middle of a parking lot a learn from there, take it slow you can get very hurt speeding down a back road and nobody is around to help you out! Just be smart. I have only got my car to realy drift once. I was doing about 40-50 in a parking lot started to turn kinda sharp and the back end kicked out but I did not have 100% control of the car still everybody that saw it liked it.

Next weekend a local road track is allowing us some free track time, so I will have the car out there. First time for me, it ought to be interesting. Good thing I lowered the car again
