Well I'm certainly no expert in this field, but I'll try my best to help out.
1) does the deck have a proprietary (cant spell) cable that sends the audio signal to the amp? in other words, the deck contains all the power connections, the antenna input, and another cable to transfer the signal to the amp, right?
Yes, it's entirely proprietary and the deck, amp, and speakers are meant to work together as one system. There is the regular harness that plugs into the deck and leads to somewhere behind the dash. On the bottom of the passenger seat there's another harness that goes to the amp. I assume this is the same cable. There's also a black cable that connects the amp directly to the deck.
2) you mentioned in the other post that another harness for the amp should be under the seat, even in vehicals not originally equiped with the infinity system. what all does this cable carry? just power (+ and -)?
It carries the audio channels and + and -. The black cable that hooks up to the amp also carries audio channels and + and -. Which cable is to and which if fro, I don't know.
3) how is the output of the amp routed to the speakers? if one were to upgrade to the infinity system, is there a way to run new speaker wire from the amp to the speakers? or is there another proprietary cable that serves this function?
It would be a huge headache trying to untangle that spider web of wires behind the dash to find where they go. The best bet to run new speaker wire would be to follow the wires from the speakers and go back from there.
4) how does the amp recieve a remote turn-on signal? through the pre-wired harness, through the cable via the headunit, or some other way?
I'll have to unplug it and play with a multimeter later on to find that out. I do know, however, that both the pre-wired harness AND the black cable carry + and - signals.
If any one wants to add to this, or refute any incorrect info, I'd appreciate it too. Hope it helps. ___________ Black 96 GS
