One thing I don't understand, is that the melting point of aluminum is 1220.58 degrees Fahrenheit. So how is it that your forged aluminum pistons are okay at 1500 degrees, and when you finally get to 1600 then you start worrying?
Granted, 1220 degrees if for pure Al. But even with the small amount of silicon added (what is it, like 12%), does the melting point change that much? If it does, I guess I answered my own question
