Its not really an AN fitting. The hose end is a 6AN, but the thread on the tank cap is a straignt thread hose fitting with the same thread as 6AN, 9/16-18. Generally you don't have to use tape on JIC connections, but I did because the male end isn't a JIC - its something else. I wrapped the teflon on nice and thick, tightened it up snug. 800 miles so far and it hasn't leaked.
