#6407, "RE: Lets Talk Intercoolers 2" In response to In response to 3
The intercooler core is something like 10.125"x9"4" with 3" in and out. I'd shoot for a 2-3gal reserve tank. Maybe a cheapo bildge pump but I'm gonna check with the SYTY guys on the pump.
The way it works is while under boost you don't want the liquid to make a complete loop. The system soaks the heat and then gets rid of it on its own time. If the tank is too small then you get heat soak during your run. If the heat exchangers(not I/C) are not large enough then the system may not cool off.
What is in question is the coolers for the liquid itself. I want to use an oil/trans cooler or two. I know if the coolers are too small then the intercooler become heated and heats the air more than cools it. For drag racing I guess one wouldn't even need the exchanger as you could just dump the tank and fill with new ice water.
Oil cooler trasnsmission coolers aren't too high priced but I just wanna know the biggest I can fit will be enough. And do I really need a thick core. I don't wanna impeed the radators air flow.
