You'd pretty much look for the same thing you'd check for in ANY used car. Maintenance records, compression test, Funny noises, shifts well, Clunking suspension ect... Take out the dipstick for the tranny and make sure the fluid doesn't smell "burnt" and has a nice transluscent red color.
Have them put the car on a lift and check for wet spots or leaks around the rear diff.
