Check your throttle cable. Also, make sure the throttle plate is closing all the way when you let off the gas pedel. Have you done any recent mods to the intake? on a cold day(and im CO) mine will got to maybe 1300 but in MY oppinion if it is going to 2k then it should be looked at.
Im not a mechanic though, so you dont have to listen to me. but i have done a lot of work on my intake/mani/tb lately and its been getting down to under 10 degrees here in Colorado and like i said in my opinion it shouldnt rev quite that high.
Edit: Sorry, i just re-read the post and yeah that is kinda normal. i thought you were saying that it was staying at 2k... i would still check your throttle if it still does it after your car is completely warmed up. once mine is warmed up(10mins tops) it goes back to normal and revs up and down freely.
