#8978, "South Bend Non-Modular OFE Install Question"

Hey Guys,

I'm about 75% complete with my clutch install (just have to reinstall the driver's side suspension and drive shaft) but I have a question regarding the direction of the OFE friction disc. Here are pictures of how I received the kit:

Picture #1 - My Kit:

Picture #2 - My Kit (Friction Disc Flipped):

Picture #3 - Installed on Car (Blue "Pressure Plate" Label Showing through Splines):

Picture #4 - South Bend's OFE Facebook Picture

Questions:

  1. From the above install picture, did I interpret the label on my friction disc correctly (Blue "Pressure Plate" label facing red Pressure plate)?
  2. If so, how come my friction disc seems to be opposite of South Bend's Facebook picture and description (Their description says the feramic material goes towards the flywheel while the orgranic material goes towards the friction plate.)
  3. Am I correct in stating that the feramic side is picture #1 and the organic side is picture #2?

Possible Assumption:
The only explanation I could come up with is the possibility that the direction of the friction material is dependent upon application. Maybe they intentionally put the feramic side towards the pressure plate because of the increased clamp load?

Please help clarify. I really hope I don't need to pull the transmission again to flip the disc but if it does I'm glad I noticed the discrepancy before wasting a $1,000 setup.

Thanks,
-Kurt
