#111849, "before eclipses"

totally off the subject of anything:

what did you guys drive before youre eclipses? i drove a ford pick up, and my "toy" was a '57 willys cj-5. the jeep was sweet, spring over lift with custom shackles, 33x12.5" pro comp tires on black rock crawlers, pro comp lift kit and shocks, rebuilt buick 225 ci engine, three speed, racing seats, ryno lining, black powder coated roll cage, black accents on burnt orange paint.
anyway, just wondered what other cars you guys have modded out.

A real POS known as a 95 Camaro RS After 1 xmsn rebuild and 1 xmsn replacement, a new PS pump, oil sending unit, abs module, trunk latch, rear differential, axles, battery tray, coolant resivor, and about 12 head lights and at least 8 fog light bulbs that had to be replaced. Some was under warrenty...but still....a real piece of shit american crapola. Once again the almighty american labor unions more worried about maximum wages for minimum work which result in this POS being built to substandards! I should have never traded in my 89 Honda Accord LXi on it. Yeah we rag on Honda's but they are a well built car! {Family vehicle} I LOVE my Eclipse now though!

My Univega full aluminum frame mountain bike with fully adjustable front suspension, downhill racing tires and everything you can put on a mountain bike. I even had a tripometer that told me my speed and distance and everyhting. I had a hard time giving it up for my eclispe, my first car.

Chrysler Laser. It was the Dodge Daytona Clone, not related to the DSM Plymouth Lazer. It had 2.2 turbo and 5 speed. It was rated at 145 hp. A fun car.

1995 2 door suzuki sidekick, back in high school. Total pimped out ride. Dropped with the system and convertible and tinted windows. Really pimped, always picking up chicken heads in that ride...too bad I drove it to the ground after a year.

Sorry to revive a dead topic, but I wanted to add my previous cars here.

First Car
1985 Toyota Corolla GT-S Liftback also known as a AE86 to drift fans
This car was my first toy. Had TRD springs with Tokico shocks and K&N filter as well as an exhaust. Parts were hard to find (1996) and was my high school car, man I miss it. It's now a autocross car of my cousins

Second Car
1988 Honda CRX Si
This car was the car I traded my Hachi for. My cousin gave me this CRX for my Hachi plus $3K on top of that. This car had H&R springs with Tokico shocks, polyurethane bushings, Integra Type R rear control arms, Front and Rear strut tower braces, Front and rear anti-sway bars. Cold air intake with Ultraflow exhaust. This car lasted me till about 335,000 miles and gave up the ghost.

Third Car (Still have it)
1988 Honda CRX DX
This car was given to me by my uncle. It pretty much stayed stock until my tuning bug hit me bad. Now the car has a complete K20A swap and became my weekend car. Other than the motor swap, it's dropped with Neuspeed Race springs with Tokico shocks and 15 inch Rota Slipstreams. Might try to find a sister EF8 Civic hatch to go with this car.

Fourth Car (DD)
1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS
This car was bought to be my DD. Bought for $2000 from old lady with 88,000 miles on it. See my sig for mods. Most comfortable car I've ever owned, plus turns the most heads as well hehe. I'm now thinking about trying to add a 2GB GSX to the family or if I can find one, a 1G Talon TSi AWD. I want a turbo DSM now, they are addicting. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and get an Evo already lol

Well that's my car history so far

My vehicles

1998 Mitusubishi Eclipse RS
(Daily driver)
Evo III style CF hood
Sitting on 17 inch Racing Hart C2
Tein springs
APEXi N1 universal exhaust
AEM short ram intake
95 Eclipse GSX sideskirts w/o door caps
HID 9006 kit with 6000K bulbs
07 Eclipse shorty antenna (Stupid RS non-power antenna

1988 Honda CRX Si
(K20 swap, when I really want to surprize people LOL)

Old, but at least it isn't one of those topics where the guy answers a 5 year old question...

My first car

1985 Dodge Omni Base Auto $400, max speed was ~135 km/hr. I would get passed by semis both accelerating and just driving. I once tried a 0-60 time and if I remember right it was 22 seconds lol. Oh yeah, whenever it rained the windshield leaked right over my lap... I got it stuck and overheated it.

Next was a 1991 Ford Escort Manual $1200. Really made me love manuals. Still slow but it got pretty darn good fuel economy and it was super cheap and easy to maintain/find parts. It was my first car to do work on like the clutch, drive shafts, suspension, tires etc. Gave it to my dad when I got my first Talon.

Then was my 97 Eagle Talon ESi Manual $1500(a deal from my old boss/family friend). Good car, got me hooked, fun to drive and it surprised me with amazing fuel economy(~40 mpg). It had some rust, which I am currently trying to fix.

Now I have a 98 Eagle Talon ESi Manual $4200. Saw it and it looked like a steal of a deal coming with nice wheels/tires, winter tires, long range remote start, well maintained. I am currently installing header and cat back and an intake is on the way. Haven't fully decided where to go from here, probably turbo on of the cars over the next year or so.

Started with a hand-me-down '78 Monte Carlo, bucket seat, glass T-top that eventually got a 454 transplanted in it...
Then my dd '87 S-10 2.8 V6 ext cab POS
'71 buick skylark
'83 Silverado 4X4 - Blew that engine, checkin oil once and a while helps! Chaulk it up to bein young
'64 Chevy malibu - Never got to drive it, was rebuilding it from my brother's gf's garage, they split up and she sold it! Had a 454, TH-400 and was in the middle of converting it to front-disc.
'87 Buick Grand national (See sig... eventually got stolen, only to be recovered 4 years later in a drug bust, now it's state evidence and the insurance company won't let us have it back. It's what got me turned on to the turbo world!)
'88 Grand Am Quad-4 5-spd Quick little bastard!! Got the tires to chirp one time droppin it to 3rd at 60mph. Wound up blowin the head gasket on a trip from Texas to Iowa with a (found out later) bad thermostat.
'92 Grand Am atx, POS
'88 honda prelude May have been an '89, can't quite remember. Side-draft carbs with a 5 spd. Fun as hell that year in the ice storm!
'71 Chevelle SS 402 Still have it, in storage with a EFI-350 +.060 700-R4 with lockup TC. Also have the original 402 that'll be rebuilt with a 60spd when I get the $$$$.
'87 Ford Turbo-Coupe 5-spd - scrapped the car, still have the engine complete is anyone's interested!
'95 eclipse, current, see sig

My babies....

------------Before----------------------

im under 25...

92 Honda ex – 150k (4 DOOR) (FIRST CAR) – bone stock, wrecked due to too many games of beer pong and party hoppin – I USE TO OWN TIBURONS IN THIS CAR!!! – I miss it, will buy another one soon

The love of my life – 96 GS - 96k (the ricer magnet) had no idea that I could turbo it till I seen this forum. Was too slow stock that’s why it has a turbo now. Hell naw im never selling this car, im in for life. Everything is stock except the engine bay, exhaust and rims Yes I have gotten dumbass questions like why don’t you put the money in the ls1, blah blah blah. (I want a 420a talon next, or a 94 awd tsi eclipse. Better yet I might go neon!!

------------After(still have)----------------------

98 v6 camaro – 200k - same color as the trans am. Stock. Might drop a v8 later down the road, get it bored and camed out since it weighs much less then the am. It has a system...

01 Trans am – 70k (k&n filter) other than that its factory stock, even the cd player! Still haven’t decided if I want to turbo it or not.

Other interesting cars I drive every now and then is my dads 1967 ford econoline (the truck version not the van) str8 line six,it turns heads. Starting to rust a little.

I actually had my first car up until last month when I finally sold it to some kid on craigslist for $1,500. It was the first car that I bought when I was 17 and lasted me 11 years without one single problem or breakdown. (Until of course I gave it to the wife to drive) It was a 92 Civic Dx and was slow as balls but got me where I needed to go.

This might sound like blasphamy, but I've always wanted to swap a Grand National Motor into a 300ZX (Z32) model to have more fun. Its always interesting to see what everyone drove before the addiction we now call a 2GNT hehe.

1998 Mitusubishi Eclipse RS
(Daily driver)
Evo III style CF hood
Sitting on 17 inch Racing Hart C2
Tein springs
APEXi N1 universal exhaust

I've seen a late 50's chevy truck with a heavily-modded GN motor in it... pretty sweet. Dyno'd around 800hp. My brother has a standing dream to put a 3.8T-6-spd combo in a late 70's Corvette (he had a '77 L82 that got totalled).

Naw, what's blasphemy to me is people who take the 3.8/4.1 out and put S/B-BC motors in. Kinda takes the whole auora away!

Okay, let me see here:

1987 Olds Calais Carolina Edition - FREE! (Needed fuel pump, blew motor)
1993 Eclipse - Sold.
1995 Neon Sport Coupe - What started my obsession, wrecked on the way to gym in HS (dont ask).
1993 240SX - Absolutely loved this car, bad transmission though. Luckily I made out really good because it was bought from an auction.
1994 Volvo 860GLT - Used it for four months, then sold.
1995 Neon Highline Sedan - My first autocross was in this car.
1996 Neon ACR - My absolute favorite car. I regret selling it to this day.
2004 Beetle - Too expensive, banks shouldnt lend 18 year olds 14 grand with no down payment. Unlike other assholes, I got a second job to pay it before I finally sold it.
1996 Ranger - I beat the shit out of this truck and it kept going. Kinda glad/sad to see it go.
1998 Eclipse RS - How I find you guys, and has now taken the place of Neons

My eclipse was my first car. I bought it bout six years ago from my sis for somewhere around 2700. Not sure the exact amount. She married a guy from wales and moved there, so she needed out from under the loan. So my parents took it over and I paid them back when I got my first job.

When the motor blew, I had a 92 sunbird convertible for a while. It was a pos, but it was fairly quick, and when the top still worked it was pretty kick ass. Put a cai and a z24 hood on it and painted the interior black cause the chick that had it before me ruined the white interior with her cigarettes. White = cool, Gross ass yellow... not so much. I was gonna keep it after I got my eclipse working, just for something to mod out and beat the shit out of, but it kept spittin out motors, so I sold it for the last 400 dollars I needed to get my eclipse runnin. The nice thing about those cars is that the 3.1 engine they run on is a dime a dozen, so you can walk into a junkyard anyday of the week and buy a running motor for 300 dollars, sometimes less. Sensors were less than a fifth of the price that the ones the eclipse cost me... Basically the eclipse breaks less often but costs more to fix when it does. The sun bird broke all the time, but it was nickles and dimes, until my second 300 dollar engine in six months, that's when shit got gay.

My build: verttuner.com (hosted on my blog)

Longest thread evar.

First car I ever drove: Some mid-eighties FWD Buick Skylark. Digital dash. Big pimpin'. Followed by some seat time in a 1980 Audi 80 in Germany. Flat yellow. Shit green interior.

Stateside, got my license and got to drive mom's Plymouth Sundance (Dodge Shadow) for a while before picking up the biggest piece of shit ever, an 88 FWD Grand Prix. The 2.8L V6 made less power than the stock 2GNT, which was purchased new with the funds from the sale of the GP.

Ironically, Daisy's on Craigslist as I post this. Someone's coming by tonight to check her out. Said he would come with cash...

Thank goodness the engine overheated, and I got the Eclipse shortly thereafter. As my first car, she still holds a special place in my heart.
