just curious what some of you have used to beat out the driver's side axle from the passenger side, cuz i'm using a 3 foot long 1/4 inch wide rod and still cant hit it out. any ideas?

I'd aim for the shortest possible rod with the widest possible diameter and the biggest hammer you can swing in that tight space. With 3 feet of 1/4" rod, you might not be transferring much of that energy into the axle. That length of thin rod might act like a spring as flexes in the middle. The initial shock is what will drive the axle out, so you have to minimize any spring effect.

and why not use a crowbar and pry it out from the same side using the flat side on the axle like you should

Pretty sure this is the guy with the axle frozen in the diff that absolutely won't come out. If one person could pry while another punches it with a sledge, it might just come out.

This is fun !
1. raise the rotor assem 4"
2. turn the rotoe while pulling at the same time (keep the axle raised)
3. take a small flathead (that u dont mind getting ruined) and pry at the axle
4. make sure the persone pulling/turning and lifting the rotor assem doesnt pull it from the cv boot
5. repete until it pops out... that lil ring in there doesnt like to give loose very ez..... it will take some time.. and u will need help bro

if I abso-fucken-lutely could not get the axle out, and I knew the tranny was going to need to be replaced, Id take a cut-off wheel to the axle and get as much out of the way as possible and pull the tranny with the axle in it. But thats an extreme measure and shouldn't be done unless all else fails (Don't listen to this guy, he huffs Air Horn!)
