WHAT: The biggest annual event dedicated to DSMs and Evos in the world.
WHERE: Norwalk, Ohio (about an hour west of Cleveland)
WHEN: August 14th and 15th, 2010
WHY: If you spend any kind of regular time on this forum, if you recognize anyone by their screen name, those of us who get together at the Shootout every year can only tell you that getting together in person takes membership in this community to a whole new level.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE SHOOTOUT:
- Friday (THE 13TH IN 2010!) NIGHT - Most people arrive, drinking with friends in the hotel parking lot. Always plenty of beer, recently, maraschino cherries soaked in Everclear for 9 months that sort of scared some people.
- Saturday (the 14th) DAY - Most of the 2GNT family goes to Bob Evans for breakfast before dyno day and "car show" at Buschur Racing. He only dynos AWD cars these days, but expect to see serious steel show up. Scott Glassbrook usually has his tubbed-out, RWD, GT42R, blow your fucking mind red 1G Eagle Talon out there and there are countless other sweet fucking cars. Turbo Colts, mint 1Gs, GVR4s, old Ford pickup trucks with 4G63s in them. All the while, car after car on the dyno spinning the rollers in the background (or foreground if you want to hang out in the shop to watch). If you can only take an hour or so of carshow/dyno action, Cedar Point, home of some serious roller coasters is less than an hour to the north.
- Saturday NIGHT - Usally ALL the 2GNTers go to Outback Steakhouse in neighboring town of Milan, where we take up the ENTIRE PATIO and grub on steaks. After that, back to the hotel parking lot for more drinking and laughs. Expect to see DSMs and EVOs rolling through the parking lot all night long. It's a super good vibe.
- Sunday (the 15th) DAY - Get up and drag a bunch of hungover assholes to the track for drag racing. 2GNTs and 2GNTers have been on the podium. If you're a consistent driver, YOU CAN RACE AND YOU CAN WIN. Otherwise, we watch cars run as fast as 7 seconds. Will Brent Rau be back out? Maybe Shep will return in his 7 second 1G (instead of his 9 second, stock appearing Evo like he did this year). Either way, there's a full day of racing. The family seems to be split on the concession stand's POUND OF ICE CREAM FOR A DOLLAR or the giant, chili chesse fries. There's also burgers, pizza and hot dogs available if you're into that.
- Sunday NIGHT - Dinner happens on a whim and we come to terms with knowing we're all leaving in the morning. We drink into the wee hours, but many people have long drives or flights to catch in the morning, so this is a low key evening. We start thinking about next year.
