105610, OMG!! I'm finally BOOSTED!!! (long)
Posted by devvin, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Holy smokes! Having never even been in a turbo'd car, I didn't know what to expect when I started tearing into my baby. I can't even find the right words to describe it. I wish I would have known about it sooner.

After stumbling accross this board a little over two years ago while looking for a centercap for my OZ wheels for my '99 (hahaha) I was opened up to a new world. I started reading and reading and wanting and wanting, so I started saving and saving...and saving and saving...and saving some more. Over the past two years I've accumulated Most everything I could want for my car to experience the thing they call "boost". I know I could have done it cheaper by shopping around for all of the pieces, but after this long, money spent is money forgotten. I knew I would want to run a fair amount of boost so I ordered the rebuild kit from Howell for the top and bottom end. I got the crane 14's ( I know some people say they suck, but I'm diggin' em) with it and the 8.6 JE's(noisy bastards). I bought a block off some guy from a '98 neon and sent it away to the machine shop to be "taken care of". I got it back and me and my cousin assembled the bottom end and the head (p&p etc.) I had bought a 5spd from some dude that had a brand new Quaiffe LSD in it, so we popped the spec stage III in and dropped the engine and tranny in.

I ordered the Hahn stage II kit with the 20g and FMIC, and the portfueler "programmed", ha!, for 500cc injectors. I changed out everything you all have said needs to go from the HRC kit, I then picked up a Fluidyne rad., some FAL fans, stage II axles from the driveshaftshop.com, Zeitronix wideband, 3" turbo back exhaust from Hahn with the TRD catback and 3" hi-flow cat, and an MSD programmable DIS-2. I picked up the bells and whistles: Greddy p/h gauges, type RS bov, profec b spec II from 'Aggression'.

Over the last two weeks my cousin Mike and I have been fighting my car tooth and nail to get all this stuff put on. I think I invented some new curse words during this time. I think my car was just afraid of the change. :) The hahn map for the portfueler was attempting to drown my engine, and in a fit of rage and insanity,(and a touchy ass laptop) I accidentally deleted it.oops. Mike stuck me on axle duty while he created a map from scratch. It took a while of testing and tweaking but OMG the finished product is sooo much more than I expected!

We started out with 10psi and I was shitting my pants(first boosted ride). We then tweaked into the night, and by 12:30am we had her boosting at 18psi and making me afraid of myself. This thing pulls so incredibly hard(thanks in part to the awesome solid front mount I bought from Matt (XtremeRS). I hit 140mph in 5th gear last night and still had pedal and power coming!!! I know this is really really long, but I can't get over how awesome boosting is.

I just want to say again, thanks to ALL of you who help me on this message board, you answer just about all of my question throught the search key. It feels great to know what it feels like to boost, I thought I loved my car before. That was puppy love, this is full on porno now! }(

Congrats man, I can't wait til I get the money to start my project either but there are a bunch of things I want to do first cosmetically. I already can hardly wait for the first time to feel it pull then let off the throttle and hear that BOV, it gets me excited just thinking about it and I haven't even started my project yet.

POST PICS UP!!!!!!

Yes pictures please. Congrats dude it looks like you saved for a butt load of things. I couldn't wait and have slowly built up mine and I'm still not to where you are. I thought my car was awesome at 9PSI I can't even imagine double that. Sounds like you need to head to the track and Dyno and to keep us posted on those times and numbers. Congrats again man, hope to see more posts from ya.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm really excited about it. I'm gonna try not to break her. I've got a spare block, head and tranny to build for insurance. I don't drive all crazy or anything. We were testing the fuel map when I hit the 18psi. I'm too old to drive like that anymore. Baxsom, after reading these boards for the last couple of years, I've learned that I too will be driving clad with wrench, duct tape, and jb. lol :-) I've got hose clamps, vac. hose, fuel hose, every fluid imaginable, and the undisputed heavyweight champion of the quick fix...duct tape :D

I'll take some pics on my break today, and try and get em posted up before I leave work at 4. I already know what my next project will be for her.....brakes!!!!!!!!!!

Here's some pics that I took on my lunch break. I still have a lot of cleaning up to do in the bay to make it look pretty and all, but that'll be a job for this weekend.

Heres one of my MP 60mm TB:

Here's a shot of the Fluidyne and the FAL fans:

Here's the programmable MSD DIS-2. My battery lives in the trunk now

:thumbsup

Here's my attempt to get a shot of the PF fuel rail:

Greddy type RS:

Greddy p/h gauges. They look really nice at night:

I like the way the exhaust looks here:

I hope to have more pics once I clean up the engine bay. I wanna get braided vac. lines and sand the letters on the valve cover. Then I'll get everything looking nice under there.

Nice, my only criticisms would be the red loom, red hoses and the pinstrip. I did the red loom too and got sick of it quick, I have all black now, makes it look cleaner IMO. Everything else is badass and tastefully done. What brake upgrades did you have in mind? Just curious.

P75 WILDBERRY!!!!! Best color!!!!!... I love what you did with the piping that looks very nice. Ever think of polishing the raised lettering on the valve cover. I have literally an identical looking valve cover to yours except I polished the raised lettering and it looks very good.

Dannnnnnnnnng.

Your car has such a nice stance and engine bay to compliment it. Powdercoating ftw.

Yeah, I agree with the red hoses. I didn't like those after I put them on. I'm going to order some braided vacuum line from Summit. The loom doesn't really bother me to much. I am hoping to have the car painted by summer's end. I want to get that really really deep maroon that I've seen on some of the 350z's and a few lexus'. It almost looks black at first glance. I think that'll look really nice. The pinstripe kinda rocks I think, but then again, I'm more old school.
On the brakes, I was looking at the Baer set for it, I've gotta research some more and see what other people have found to be good with our cars. I know some people before were talking about TCE performance products selling some good brake kits. Any suggestions?

I have Baer 13" up front and the AEM 11.5" in the back. I don't have any actual track time on them so I can't tell you much about that. However they are a tremendous upgrade from stock and were easy to install. Based on cost/performance I'd still get these If I had to go back and do it over. I got mine from MachV.com but you can probably find somewhere cheaper. When I got them they were either $625 or $675 (Its been a while) but now they're sell price is $799. The rears are still the same price though ($299).

Thanks! Mach V is like a 20 minute drive for me. I'll stop in there and talk to them about it. I definitely need to get some better stopping power.

I can't believe you said the engine bay is dirty. That's one of the cleanest looking engine bays I've seen, it's beautiful along with the rest of your car.

That's one nice clean Eclipse. Do us all a favor and keep your exterior just how it is. Too many of us spend money adding body kits and crazy spoilers to our cars for no reason cause the 97-99 2G Eclipse body style needs no modification to make it look nice and your car proves that point. :thumbsup

That car is amazing! Reading your first post reminded me of reading a car magazine feature article lol. Great Job man, I love it.

PS: Your gauges are crooked...
105643, RE: OMG!! I'm finally BOOSTED!!! (long)
Posted by devvin, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Thanks! I don't plan on changing the body at all. I bought this car because I loved the styling that it came with, well, other than the 16" oz wheels.;) I just want to get it painted a few shades darker, and get some new oem headlight housings that aren't fogged.

LOL, I know my gauges are crooked. For some reason I can read them better like that.:shrug I had em straight but it wasn't working for me so I had to give them the gangsta lean. Maybe I'm slightly off balance?:P hmmm....that would explain so many things....

I personally like the red loom. It doesn't clash with the color of the valve cover or pipes. and the color of them(valve cover and pipes) bring out the red.

That's one of the most beautiful 420aT setups i've ever seen.

MAD PROPS!

You are my hero! That is what I want my car to look like when I am done. I also very heartily agree about not changing the body because I love the styling of the eclipse. That is why I bought the car, that and I want a sleeper. Good job man, if everyone did their setups like you did yours we would have a much happier world. :thumbsup

Thanks dude! I'm keeping the GS badge on it. I want people to know that she's come a long way. ;) I love the way our cars look. They just need a slight height adjustment and some nice shoes and they're ready to shine. :cheers

I also agree about the height, how are you liking the AGX's? I am getting the same springs and am still debating on what struts to get.

I love the AGX's. I set my front at 2 and my rear at 4. My ride feels VERY close to stock.
