http://www.modified.com/news/sccp_0807_hyundai_genesis_coupe/index.html

also an article on modified magazine's may 09 issue.

A RWD 2.0 turbo inline 4cyl. Couple that with a motor comprised of mitsubishi's 4g63, and chrysler's 420a, factory LSD, and much more? i dunno. I think I like. shitty?

Every single car Hyundai makes is a piece of shit.

I worked for Hyundai before I worked for Chevrolet 6 years ago...total pieces of fuck.

IDK, 3439lbs with 6 speeds (my arm is tired already). Kinda like taking the FWD out of the AWD cars; still got the weight but only two wheels.

And, as Mike points out, its still a Hyundai.

But time and testing will tell. Still need more info.

maybe they've turned their business practices around for the better. we'll see. I won't be getting a car anytime soon, but this is one of the top 3 that I'm considering

I've driven the 2.0T Track Pack and if I didn't mind having a car payment the skittle would be getting traded in. It's a really fun car.

All the preconceived and unfounded brand hatred is pretty funny though.

Now back on topic, which I believe is Hyundai. Have a fucking issue? Take it to PMs.

Maybe the older ones.

But from reading reviews on them in magazines in the past, seemed like for the last few years they were improving exponentially :shrug

Kinda like Saturn.

No, my sister has an 04 XG which is supposed to be their luxury car...how about 5 tranny's later. All covered under warranty thank god.

Or my Grandma's 06 Santa Fe = piece of rolling junk.

My opinion stands, Hyundai's are garbage.

Maybe.

I still think the Genesis will be a good car. Based on the reviews. IMO Hyundai made a sports car when most other people arent.

I cant even think of a RWD small displacement turbo car. May be a mind block, but in current production I cant think of one :shrug

Solstice/Sky but those are a different segment. The reason you can't think of any is because the market for them disappeared after the 240/Silvia bit the big one. It's refreshing to see a car company take a chance like this.

And Tim, take anything Mike says with a metric fuck ton of salt or just ignore it all together. All his opinions are the sheer definition of anecdotal. A good example of a normal human being able to not be narrow minded is my first Mitsubishi. The day I bought it a significant short at the fuse box completely melted it and a good portion of the wiring harness. The car had electrical gremlins since then. OMFG MITSUBISHI SUCKS SO MUCH ASS THIS IS GARBAGE. Why do I want another one despite my 2GNT? Shit happens and I enjoy the niche vehicles that Mitsu has brought to the table. Or the guy in our local "club" that's a heavy line tech for Dodge. He rants about hating working on DCX vehicles but at the end of the day he can't fault them and his entire family drives them. (I should note that the Caliber IS built like shit. Don't buy one.)

Hyundai's build quality has improved leaps and bounds since their first introduction into the North American market AND keeping prices competitive. Period. The only problem they have is shaking a stigmata that people like Mike pointlessly perpetuate. The same reason the baby boomers still call anything imported "rice burners".

I guess that brings to light a new topic: What is the most reliable car you've owned? Include a list of all previous vehicles owned.

Most reliable vehicles owned (look past your love for the car):

(Tie for me)
88 Isuzu 4x4 P'up
03 Dodge SRT-4

Vehicles I've owned:

88 Isuzu 4x4 P'up (sold with over 300k on the ticker 7 years ago. I still see it driving around.)
03 Dodge SRT-4 (I beat the snot out of this car and it's NEVER given me grief.)
71 Super Beetle (that thing never ran right)
46/47 CJ2A (It's a project, it's supposed to not work 90% of the time :P)
96 Integra (holy Christ bad memories. Aren't Honda's supposed to be reliable?)
99 2GNT (fairly reliable minus the electrical fire)
86 Subaru GL-10 Turbo. (This car was a rolling mistake. Fun though.)
91 TSi AWD. (Driggs once said that DSM's are the sum of their owners. It's obvious this car's previous owners couldn't add.)

Mike, you're a cool guy but seriously lighten up.

the only reliable thing ive ever owned is an 04gsx600 lol, a 98 neon an a 97 talon are not exactally the top of the reliability chain. my friend and i had a discussion about the genesis today after we passed one. I think its nice to see another small displacement rwd car for a good price although i think i would prefer to spend a bit more and get a slightly used 350z.

I am lightened up. I guess im not alowed to an opinion any more. My opinion is still that they suck balls. I worked on these cars for almost a year and every single one of them were junk. They are made very low quality, not saying other cars arent, but these were bad. My opinion possibly would have changed if my sister's XG wasnt on her 5th transmission. That tells me right there they are manufacturing pure garbage. Im not saying this vehicle is gargabe, but every single one I have worked on the past has been pure junk.

Sorry, I wont give my input any more.

I would buy a Genesis long before I would anything from GM or Chrysler. Not that I'm in the market for any of the above... AMS has one already in house and is doing R&D. http://genesisforums.org/ams-performance/ as does Buschur http://genesisforums.org/buschur-racing-inc/. <shrug>

I would buy the mivec eclipse over this.

Hyndai is a Division under GM, like Mazda is to Ford. They're trying to bring GM out of that stump their in.

I never did like the tiburon also, this their new version of it.

I'm more a chrysler guy than GM or Ford, Genesis aint jack compared to the MIVEC over 200HP stock.

I'm curious to see what Chrysler will come with, for 2010.

It must have potential if buschur and ams, are fabbing products for it.

And that's the problem with your jilted view. Every one you've worked on came to you with problems. I run a call center that supports internet gateways. Every person that calls has a problem with our hardware. That doesn't instantly make me think our product is junk as it's completely unfounded and subjective to the highest degree.

Except for the fact they are COMPLETLY different platforms. Tibby is fwd, Genesis is rwd. Oh I guess they ARE the same since they are kinda shaped alike.

they're totally different according to hyndai. They may look alike, but that is the only similarity. Read up on it and you'll see that and the differences between the two that they point out.

Love how Dino comes in and says "No, they aren't." That's GOLD.

Here's my take on Hyundai.

Never mind the already stated fact that Hyundai has steadily improved build quality while providing the benchmark in warranty coverage that pretty much everyone else has since copied, then come up with the brilliant job loss coverage for new buyers recently which has since been copied. And never mind that their cars have been looking better with each passing model year, with more standard features and amenities, safety systems and the like. Never mind any of that stuff. After all, they've just been building the most in-demand power plants for the cargo ships that carry 90% of the world's fuel and products for the last 30 years or more.

Simply put, Hyundai makes the largest, most powerful engines - outright - in the world and they've done so for years.

Mybad its the old 80s supras is what I meant. If you guys ever been to Dearborn, Michigan you'd see the GM Plant with a big sign in front, with brands under GM.

Hey Teklein.

How about an AEM custom AWD 630HP Tiburon instead

Found this last night,

GM does not own Hyundai they are one of the few independent car manufacturers left.
A bit outdated, but still proves the point.
