18487, Sup with that??? (brake)
Posted by gilee_8, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Sup guys.
I changed my four brake system 9 months ago.
I changed the rotors, and the brake pads.

But today, I heard LOUD sound from pass side, and I found out.
The pass side brake, THE ENTIRE brake pad is GONE... I mean it's not GONE GONE..but the part where it use to brake is GONE. all 10mm is gone...but the other side (driver) still have about 90%. As I said, only 9 months man. WTF?? any input why?
Did I installed them wrong? anything to remind of?

ALso, since now it's fucked up, I want to upgrade to GSX brake.
Just the front of course.

Can you guys tell me a good place that I can get them cheap.
Just the GSX caliper is fine. (used is fine)
Coz I can get the GSX rotors and brake pad cheap.

Are that 3 things above enough for conversion?
But my main questions are:
1) what's up with my brake pad? (wear out so soon) (Only pass side)
2) Where can I get GSX caliper cheap? (used is fine)

THANKS GUYs.
Now I can't even drive my car, ONLY 3 brakes.

THANKS.
GIl;(

Never had brake pad vanish like that. You can look at it one of 2 ways, imo:
1) you jacked it up when you installed it (doubtful)
2) it was crap and just chalk it up tp bad luck and go by some new pads.

Of course you want used GSX calipers! You were thinking there's any brand new ones up in Normal right now? I would call some local salvage yards to see if they've got them. Ask if you can pull it yourself and save a couple more bucks.

autozone - $60 per caliper + core charge.
double check with them though b/c they have a separate listing for the mounting bracket so i dunno if it's included with the caliper. mostp places sell the caliper and mounting bracket as one piece though so idk.

if not RRE's got em for about $300 somethingish for the full set of everything (both calipers, both brackets, and shims). that's where i got mine but it's a little steep as far as price. especially if you can get away with giving autzone your RS/GS/GST calipers as the core. apparantly sometimes they don't notice. :P

Could be a siezed caliper, possibly a bad caliper on th eother side so all braking was done on that side. Either way upgrading to GS-X brakes I would think will solve the problem so I wouldn't worry.
