I have the old unit (AIC I) and there is only a set of sleeved wires coming out of the head unit that connect to a wire harness, an then connects to the amplifier.I don't have any more wires. The old AIC needs the resistor pack. Maybe you have the new one, AIC III. The new one doesn't have adjustable knobs in the head unit like mine, it only have buttons. Also, you are right when you say you do not need a resistor pack (if you have the AIC III).
